Itās with a heavy heart that I write this review⦠I left Rushing Trading Co. in tears today because of how I was treated by the manager Jason. Iāve been coming to Rushing for over a year now. Itās become our go to place. The food is great and so is the coffee! Along with the atmosphere. With that being said, I was overcharged for my Caribbean Coffee (my usual- for the last year or so) today. So I brought this to my waiters attention, she consulted with the manager, Jason, who then came outside to my table to belittle me. When he approached me, I tried to show him multiple recent receipts on my phone where Iāve been charged $12 for the Caribbean coffee (now trying to charge me $20!). He had no interest in viewing it. His attitude and tone when speaking to me was so disgusting and unprofessional. As a manager, this situation shouldāve been handled very differently. Hell anyone with human decency couldāve handled this situation better than he did. Not to mention out of the nearly 70+ times Iāve been to this restaurant in the last 14 months, Iāve never once had any issues/problems. Iāve spent a total of $3831.47 at this establishment. (Not to mention what my friend who also always comes with me spends ā and the people weāve introduced and brought here) And yes! I do have receipts to prove this!! And yes! I did go back and calculate it because I was in such disbelief of how this so called manager spoke to me. As anyone whoās been to this restaurant knows you can have the receipts texted to your phone. So clearly, I wasnāt trying not to pay for what I ordered. What I wasnāt going to do, is be blatantly overcharged. $8 increase per drink! Absurd!!
I have a non-verbal autistic 6 year old son who doesnāt always stay in his seat. One of the many reasons we choose to sit outside when visiting Rushing. Iām not sure if Jason had something against me or my son⦠maybe he was tired of seeing him jump and chase the birds around outside. Who knows. What I do know is my friend, who is also a regular at Rushing with us had an issue once at the Johns Creek location with her drink order; When telling Jason of this incident at the Sugar Hill location one day when we were brunching, he was so nice and apologetic, he even offered her a free meal! Maybe itās because sheās a beautiful blonde girl with well behaved doggies and no autistic child. Iām not sure why I was belittled and made to feel so bad that I walked away crying with my son to the car. The way she was treated and the way I was treated was very different. I was honestly taken back by Jason. I wasnāt looking for a free meal⦠I was looking to pay the normal price and not be charged $100 for 4 drinks and a $5 kids meal.
Let me not forget to mention what his reasoning was for over charging me. The 2nd and 4th drink I ordered were not made correctly. There was a clear difference so instead of remaking the drinks, the waitress brought out a shot of Irish cream. I always order my drink with Irish cream instead of the spiced rum that comes in it. Iāve NEVER had an up-charge of $8 until today. What a surprise this...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWish I could say we had a better experience, but we probably won't be revisiting.
Starting with the pros: The staff were all very kind. We came during a Saturday brunch rush around 11:30 AM & were sat at a tiny, tiny table inside. A table outside opened up before our food came & they accommodated us in switching. It's really nice to sit under the umbrellas and just enjoy the atmosphere. I saw some reviews where people were talking about flies... I mean, yeah there's a few because you're outside (what do you expect?), but there were none inside. The decor/vibe inside was nice & everything was very clean. Their iced dirty chai was delicious. They can accommodate dairy & gluten sensitivities, and offer a few vegetarian options. The menu seems to have a decent variety & their cocktails look good from what I saw at nearby tables.
Now for the cons: The tiny white tables feel comically small, especially for two people. I'm 5'1" and it felt small to me so that's saying something. The bigger issue here is that they have one of those tables placed way too close to the to-go counter. People were practically standing on top of us before we were able to move outside. Take this one with a grain of salt, because it can't be helped to an extent - but when they're busy it's quite loud inside, to the point you can barely talk to someone at your table. They could use a few more outdoor tables on the right side of the building in that middle walkway - there's room for at least 2-3 more. Their latte left a lot to be desired. Honestly didn't even taste the coffee, just tasted like steamed milk. While the food we had was fine, it wasn't great (some things weren't cooked correctly, e.g. over easy eggs). Just felt overpriced for what it was (we tried the middle earth bowl & rtc griddle). Service was exceptionally slow. Granted, they were busy when we first arrived... but several tables cleared out about 15 minutes in to our visit. Coming from people who've worked food service, it really seems the speed is a back of house operations issue. It took 20 minutes to get our drinks and another 45m to get our food. Keep in mind these are small breakfast plates. Didn't look like there was a shortage of servers or baristas, as they had people doubling up on tables. The only other cause I can think of is that they're using some frozen ingredients, but that's just speculation. The prices & mandatory tip percentage. This is a big one. For the quality of food & service, this was not an $80 experience (2 people: 2 plates, 2 drinks + a double-shot of espresso). I think the drinks are priced fairly, but the food is on average ~$4 more per plate than other comparable restaurants in the area. Lastly, the minimum they allow you to tip is 25% (options were 25/35/50%). For the type of establishment & service we received that's pretty absurd. While our server was very nice, we saw her maybe 3 times for 15 seconds and I had to flag someone else down to grab the check after about 25m of waiting once we finished our meals.
Overall we left feeling a bit robbed &...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI wanted to like this spot! It seems nice and trendy which speaks for the price you pay the food here. The restaurant is quaint and has a nice feel once inside.
So Iāll start with the Pros: Our server Gary was the nicest human Iāve encountered serving food since moving to Buford area. Sheās polite, she offered suggestions, and made great recommendations. We have food intolerances and she was very empathetic to those as well.
Hereās where it went bad with me. I ordered the avocado toast which wasnāt bad itās just not worth $11. Some Pepperidge farm bread toasted nicely with avocado on top. They have lemons on top and mine came caked with a blanket of pepper. Iāve seen several pictures just now on this app and didnāt realize pepper is served on Avocado toast. Iāve never been to a restaurant where the avocado toast has a blanket of pepper on it. Needless to say I had to send it back because I canāt each that much pepper.
The server was empathetic and got the kitchen to make me a new one.
Here comes the manager/owner, she asked about my food and I mentioned Iām unable to eat pepper because of a food intolerance, I mentioned had it stated it would have a blanket of pepper on top I would have made it easier on the kitchen and asked for it to be made without it. Her arrogance screamed entitlement. āWe canāt just put every ingredient on each item we sell on the menuā
Weāll hereās my response to that, yes you can! When people have food intolerances, your job is to make certain nothing sneaks itās way to that plate which could kill or harm someone! She did not give a damn! Now this wasnāt just a few dashes of pepper, I would have been okay with that, it was a blanket of pepper on each slice!
Either way, Iām the paying customer, I expect to get my food prepared the way I want it prepared! The restaurants job is to accommodate that!
Lastly, they bring me a new order out and they left the oil off this time.
I really wanted to like this place, but to be talked to like that was rude and uncalled for. Iām not sure if it was the color of my skin or not, but Iāll never let someone speak to me like that when Iām patronizing your damn...
