Our kids were begging for ice cream so we googled for places near where we were driving and came up with this place. We all tumbled out of the car excited for ice cream. They were disappointed when we got in and discovered there was only these layered dessert jars or milkshakes. They didn't want milkshakes, they wanted ice cream. But we stayed cuz we'd had a huge day and didn't feel like picking something else!
Well it was very nice. We usually would buy 3 or 4 things in a situation like this and share. There is 6 of us and stops like this get very costly. But this time we all decided to get our own. It was pricey for sure at $8.49 per shake and 7.49 for the jar dessert. So I guess it was $49.94 plus tax. Wow!
Honestly I'm not sure we would go again. The milkshakes weren't so amazing that they were worth that price but I did appreciate that they were made with real ice cream! Hubby had the key lime pie jar (not pictured) and he liked it but again, not Heaven.
Also, my kids didn't all get their first choice milkshake cuz they told us they were nearly out of chocolate ice cream so we could only order 2 shakes that required that and the rest needed to be a vanilla base.
We went on a Sunday late afternoon and the place was dead. We were there likely 45 minutes and one other person came in. I feel like they would do well to offer ice cream, even just the couple flavours they carry for the shakes. All families love going for ice cream but it isn't often everyone wants a shake or drink. They do have some other drinks (smoothies, tea, and overnight oats). I guess they aren't an "ice cream" place. I just wonder if they're limiting their business. Need more variety or something to nibble on. That's my opinion!
It was an enjoyable time together but likely not a place we'd go again.
The decor was simple but classy. We enjoyed the nice seating. There was two areas like that and the rest is simple tables and chairs
The staff were very sweet and friendly and very patient with us when our kids took ages to pick...
Read moreI did not try the shakes, so THEY may be good. We bought 4 kinds of "Heaven in a jar" desserts. We should have bought one to find out first. I tried two, then left them on the counter. I was not offered a replacement, or a refund. That is okay, I will NEVER be back almost no matter what they did. First of all the jars were not sealed, they did not pop when opened. I plunged ahead anyway, I was hungry and am generally not germaphobic. The Chocolate Tres Leches had what originally tasted like good icing on the top. Later my wife and I both experienced that Crisco "slimey" felling on the tops of our mouths, a sure sign of low quality icing. BTW, my wife is a baker, and there are several others in our family. I am NOT a baker, but am a long time connoisseur of fine baking. Then came the Red Velvet cake. It was HORRIBLE. The previous dessert was not so good, but this one was horrible. The red layer of the cake was dry, almost dry enough to be called sandy. The strongest flavor for the filling between layers of very dry tasteless NOT Red velvet cake, mostly tasted of cinnamon, it was almost strong enough to remind me of children eating spoonfuls of cinnamon on a dare. Avoid this place at all costs, it is terrible food, and worse...
Read morePros: tasty milkshakes, comfy seating, great service Cons: jar desserts are sickeningly sweet with no balance to flavors, kind of expensive for the size/taste
I would recommend their milkshakes even though they take a while to make them (though the regular drinks are kinda meh). The jar desserts, however, are bad. They're way too sweet, and the flavors aren't balanced. As an example, the smores consists of a huge glob of fudge on top, a thick layer of unflavored whipped cream in the middle, and a thin layer of graham cracker crumbs on bottom; it's not possible to get a spoonful with all 3 flavors, so it doesn't even taste like a smores. The key lime pie was the same and didn't even taste like key lime pie. It was so disgustingly sweet that I felt sick halfway through and couldn't finish it.
The glass jars are really nice, so I guess that's what you're really paying for. Heaven In a Jar, take note, these are WAY TOO EXPENSIVE for the taste, so I'd recommend switching to cheaper plastic jars in order to make these cost appropriate for your customers. Also, maybe thinner, alternating layers for better...
