I was very excited to try this place out. Drove by the area and noticed it, a friend also recommended it soon after. I basically begged to go since my boys don’t like sushi or sushi fusion.
We arrive, hostess asks if we would like high top or regular sitting. We choose high too. 10 minutes later, no service. We wondered if the high top section was for bar orders so we asked the host if we could switch. She looked very annoyed by this. I asked if we were any trouble and she did not answer me until she sat us down, which was a very long pause, and then she said “no trouble at all”. Extremely rude.
We sit at a very sticky table, we still don’t complain or say anything. I’m just excited to try the place out. We get a really nice waitress, she gets our orders and we wait quickly placed our order.
Our drinks and appetizers came out pretty quickly and then we waited 45 minutes for our chicken plate, chicken fingers and ceviche to come out.
In those 45 minutes, our table and my family were splattered with sushi Mayo. It was in my hair, my sweater, my sons back, our appetizers, our drinks … literally splatters on our glass cups. It was by far DISGUSTING. It would not have been as bad if it was just a sauce, but this was from a sushi plate that was dirty and being picked up. Which means other peoples germs and saliva were on there. We stopped eating the appetizers and just waited for our food. The waitress that splattered us, by accident, offered me a shot… instead of replacing our entire table and at least wiping it down. We smelled like Mayo and shrimp after this. Not once did a manager stop by to apologize or check on us either.
We finally get our food, AFTER I ASKED how much longer it would be…… at that moment it was…. Ready…. Weird
I ordered a another drink, my son can’t even sip on his Dr Pepper since it’s literally warm and all syrup.
My husband gets an $18 chicken plate, that chicken was so dry and rubberish. The sweet potatoes were very yummy I will say this. I had a tuna sushi roll and ceviche and both were delicious. My sons fried chicken, the tempura fell off each individual piece. It was just bad. I really was hoping to have a reason to be adventurous that Sunday in hopes that they would try something new.
We never saw the second beer I ordered until asked for it at the end and by then we were ready to go.
I really wish I would have taken pictures but I did not want to make it a worse experience for my family.
We will most definitely not...

I had Mango Tea and didn't like it so went for traditional Lemonade. The water they use from the fountain to make the minute maid Lemonade taste horrible so I went without a beverage.
The communication wasn't great. I ordered California rolls for my son and needed a minute to decide for myself.
When the guy came back for my order he asked if there would be anything for my son? 😐
I pointed at my son and said he's having the California Rolls.
He had a defensive posture with his hand up and explained he didn't know if I wanted his order in already or at the same time?
That question should've been asked when I placed his order 10min prior.
Our food comes and the manager brings it. She doesn't look like she works there by her attire. They only way I concluded she was because she was giving direction and handling food.
She brought 1 plate and mentioned California Rolls.
I pointed to my son to let her know that's his order.
There were like 16 pieces in 2 different groups. I looked at the plate 🍽 confused. She said it's both and named my order which my son is highly allergic to.
Me: You put both orders on 1 plate? Manager: yes do you need 2 plates? Me: Yes please (who does that)
I had the Hawaiin shrimp 🍤 roll hold the chill powder. The flavor was good.
My sons California roll had a lot of pieces of carrot 🥕 mixed in the rice which is odd. Normal sushi is just the whit rice roll.
He ate a few pieces and he was done.
As we're about to leave I noticed fried sushi oreo and a scoop of vanilla ice cream so I decided to give it a shot. It said it was the employees favorite.
It was delivered with 2 forks. I thought it's weird to eat sushi with a fork and ice cream with a fork 🍴 🤔 so I req a spoon 🥄 for my ice cream and chopsticks for my sushi.
It was ok for me. If you really like oreos and have a super sweet tooth go for it! The blueberry on top threw the whole chocolate to vanilla bread sweet creamy sweet off. Yuck
The communication was horrible. You should put on the menu or verbalize all food comes on 1 plate.
People have allergies and preferences.
You should ask if the desert will be shared and not assume and bring extra utensils creating an odd situation.
I probably won't go here again unless everything else is closed and I needed to get my vegan...
Read moreI’ve always enjoyed visiting Japaneiro’s whenever I was in the Sugar Land area for meetings. It became one of my go-to spots, and I even recommended it to colleagues. On a recent visit, I brought a vegetarian colleague for lunch, speaking very highly of the restaurant. We both decided to do a full three-course meal, and overall, the experience started off well. The service was good, and we were enjoying our meals.
However, there were a few key moments that left us disappointed. First, while I’ve visited multiple times, I still find the menu a bit difficult to navigate because of the names used. I had to ask the waiter, Aidan, for clarification on several items, which should have signaled to them that we were not familiar with certain distinctions on the menu. Despite this, there was little effort made to ensure we fully understood any premium add-ons.
The main issue arose when my colleague was offered a “special wasabi sauce” more than halfway through our meal. The way it was presented made it seem like a complimentary condiment, much like how many restaurants offer extra sauces or enhancements without charge. My colleague accepted it, only to find an unexpected $3 charge on the bill. When we inquired about it, the waiter, Aidan, simply stated, “I said it was premium, so that should have let you know.”
It wasn’t about the $3 charge itself, but rather the way the situation was handled. Instead of acknowledging the misunderstanding or making any effort to resolve it, the waiter simply processed the payment and walked away. There was no attempt to reassure my colleague, a first-time guest, or to leave a positive final impression. This lack of customer care unfortunately tainted what had been an otherwise good experience.
I truly hope Japaneiro’s takes this feedback to heart. A small gesture—whether better communication upfront, a slight adjustment on the bill, or even just a more thoughtful response—could have made all the difference. As someone who has recommended this restaurant in the past, I want to continue doing so, but moments like this can deter potential new guests. Please do better in handling these situations, or you risk losing loyal patrons and referrals.
Looking forward to improvements and hoping for better future...
