⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Beautiful but Small Thai Spot – Amazing Food, Great Drinks, Sweet Staff, Worth Every Dollar for My 21st Birthday but Tight Space for Big Party + automatic 20% tip.
I went to Thai Thumbz for my birthday. The restaurant is small but very beautiful and aesthetic. The artwork on the walls stands out and gives the place a calm, cozy feeling. Because it’s small and gets busy, they only had about four or five servers, but even though they were rushing, they were still really nice, helpful, and fast.
Once we ordered, the food came out surprisingly quick, around 5-10 or 15 minutes, for the steak dishes. I ordered the ribeye for $86. It was a bone-in ribeye, juicy, tender, and perfectly cooked, definitely worth it for a birthday meal. My family ordered curries, fried rice, and desserts, and everyone enjoyed their food. The matcha and coconut milk drinks with mango or strawberry were a big favorite, and we also loved their lemonade. They had no Boba or Papaya Salad this day.
Since it was my 21st, I tried their cocktails: the White Lotus, Blue Hawaiian, and Lychee Martini. All three were delicious and priced on regular menu for around $12 to $13 for regular price. But since it was All day happy hour, it came to $6 each.
We ordered a lot to try different things: heaven beef, drunken noodles, shrimp fried rice, spring rolls, egg rolls, cream cheese crab rolls, lamb chops, salmon, and the ribeye curry. The shrimp fried rice was full of shrimp, enough to be a meal by itself. The ribeye curry didn’t have the same meat as the bone-in ribeye — it was more of a skirt steak cut — still tasty, but not what you’d expect from the name. The lobster curry eas a little tough but flavorful. My whole group probably tried about half the menu, and it was all delicious with good reviews.
The service was really sweet. They even brought out a lighter so I could light my birthday cake. For seven people, the total came with an automatic 20% gratuity, so just be aware of that.
Reservations were a little hard to make over the phone because of how loud it gets inside, but they still got us seated for eight. The place is tight between tables, but clean and well-kept. The bathrooms were spotless, and everything — from the plates and glasses to the sauce bowls — was aesthetic and cute.
They also have a Sunday Happy Hour deal with three appetizers for $22 and select drinks for $6, which is a great value.
Overall, the experience was wonderful. The food was amazing, the atmosphere was beautiful, and the service was kind even with how busy they were. The happy hour has great deals! I’d give Thai Thumbz 5 stars and definitely recommend it for a...
Read moreI’ve been to this restaurant three times, and unfortunately, the experience has gone downhill with each visit.
My first visit was during lunch, and it was wonderful. The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. My younger brother even left a 5-star review because we were so impressed. That positive experience made us want to return.
However, my second visit was very disappointing. I came back for my brother’s birthday, again during lunch. When we asked for the bar menu, the waitress told us the bar was closed and no drinks could be made. We then ordered food, but strangely, the main dishes arrived before the appetizer—fried chicken wings. When the wings finally came, they were raw inside, with visibly pink meat. We brought it to the waitress’s attention, and instead of apologizing, she just casually asked, “Do you want a new one?” I said no—we didn’t want to wait for it again. When we checked out, they only removed the cheapest item from the bill, not the raw chicken wings. The waitress showed no understanding of basic hospitality, and the manager stood nearby without saying a word or checking in with us. Still, we gave them the benefit of the doubt and decided to try one more time.
Our third visit, for dinner with a party of five, was the worst yet. We were basically left to serve ourselves. Despite specifically requesting no green beans in the salad, they were still included. No one checked on us throughout the meal. Water glasses were never refilled. We ordered the salmon curry and steak panang curry, but both dishes were served without rice. We had to wave down a server for almost 10 minutes just to get rice for the salmon curry. When the panang curry arrived, we immediately asked if it came with rice, and the server told us it didn’t—if we wanted rice, we had to order it separately. However, the menu clearly states that both dishes include jasmine rice. At that point, we were fed up. We packed up our pad Thai and the rest of our food to go because we didn’t want to spend another minute there.
This restaurant has gone from excellent to completely unacceptable. If you’re looking for a good dining experience, I strongly recommend going somewhere else. We gave them multiple chances, but the service has become consistently careless and unprofessional. I WILL...
Read moreCame in here to pickup food during the soft open. The staff was polite and the stuff was reasonably nice. However, in the judgements of the four Thai people who ate the food, the food was below average for Thai food in Sugar Land, which admittedly has quite a few good options
In particular, the wings did not even resemble Thai wings I've gotten anywhere, even fusion wings, reminding me of some pretty bad fatty wings I got from Costco and baked in an oven, not even an air fryer. The beef appetizer with sticky rice was overcooked and dry, making it like a poor jerky without actually being dry enough to be sun dried thai jerky if that was the intent and the sticky rice also was basically if I made sticky rice by putting sticky rice in a rice cooker without making adjustments.
I had three entrees. All 3 felt as if they were cooked too long on too low has heat with the basil chicken (pad kra prao) feeling weirdly gelatinous chicken and far too liquid sauce with minimal caramelization. In addition it was not done in the preferred method of minced/ground chicken, but even for a sliced chicken kra prao it was subpar. At least I could tell they were using Thai holy basil but it just wasn't good. I also ordered the garlic/pepper beef (pad kra tiem) which suffered from the same overcooking at too low heat and being too liquid.
The last entree was the namesake Thai Thumbz noodles which was probably the best of the bunch, but still basically average. Basically like lard na noodles except with more of a drunken noodle mix-up. Again I would have preferred a little more caramelization but that's somewhat subjective for this dish.
The dishes were less spicy than I was expecting as well, but that's always a crap shoot especially since I'm Thai and tend to get much spicier dishes if there are Thai people taking my order (there were not). That's not really a problem, just noting it.
I suspect the restaurant will probably survive anyway because it's the only Thai place in the town center and it's a pretty good atmosphere. I'll probably give it another chance since they're still new, but with this experience it really isn't better than the other options...
