This review is based solely on my experience and personal opinion.

We went to the Toasted Yolk Cafe in Sugar Land on Saturday 7/24/21. Me and my wife decided to try a new breakfast place and ventured to the south of Houston. We had no reservation so, they put us in line and we waited for 45 long minutes outside, in the heat as inside was super crowded and almost nobody was wearing a mask.

FOOD: we decided to play safe and order a simple meal breakfast that we thought would be very easy to make..... we were wrong. here is why, we ordered:

Pancakes = pancakes where big in size and I thought, omg, this is a good price for these 3 big pancakes. well, I was wrong. Pancakes were the opposite of fluffy and they were cold. they were stodgy, dense and flat. and the proof of the high density was the fact that while trying to cut them with a knife they would crumble and tear. When Pancakes are made with fresh ingredients, you can taste eggs, milk and butter, which is NOT the case here. my best guess? a cheap ready to cook mix. (pancakes is all I eat for breakfast and I'm over 40, so I know what a good pancake tastes like).

Belgian Waffle = the Waffle was cold, rubbery, chewy and hard to cut thru. the flavor was just off.

Yogurt Parfait = good Parfait that could use more fruit.

Coffee = one of the worst coffee we have ever had, literally dirty water. super diluted and not freshly brewed.

Orange juice = how can it be that such a fancy, high end breakfast restaurant does not have freshly squeezed orange juice? well, they do not have it. they only have the fake Tropicana orange juice, super sweet.

STAFF: our waiter was nice and friendly and with a creepy smile, but still nice. Our waiter did not wear a mask while some of the other waiters were wearing a mask covering nose and mouth. weird...

PLACE: the place is big, modern style mixed with country style. it has a good vibe to it, great for big family reunions and Birthday parties. Inside it was super cold and super noisy. Definitely NOT a place to have a relaxed and romantic breakfast with your partner.

PRICE: fairly priced.

CONCLUSION: not worth the 45 minutes wait. how can you screw up...

Let me start by saying the food was actually delicious and our server was very friendly at the Sugarland location by First Colony Mall. Unfortunately, if you are planning to eat here make sure you bring your arctic parka and a space heater for your personal comfort. The a/c was on full blast in the restaurant, so much so that my wife's hair was "blowing in the wind". It was 71 degrees outside so there was no reason for the a/c to be blasting people into the ice age. Be forewarned....DO NOT SIT AGAINST THE WINDOWS FACING 59....you will freeze and your food will get cold. I'm a big guy (250+) and I was cold in a long sleeved shirt. Maybe the restaurant was trying to mimic winter temperatures since we are in Houston and it doesn't really get cold outside that often. We did ask our server if we could move and she immediately apologized and moved us to a nearby table. Her manager quickly arrived after we were settled though and, instead of addressing the situation, she told us that table was already taken and we needed to move. We explained the server had placed us there and she huffed away never to return. Instead, she sent the server back to apologize and advise us we needed to move. Reminder, the server was the one that sat us there. We opted to just get our check and take our remaining food to go. Nothing against the server but if the manager is like that there is really no reason to stay. Needless to say, the manager is a complete tool and should not be in the service industry. She could have taken a number of approaches addressing our table move (that the server made happen), but instead she felt the need to be rude. Only reason I am not giving one star is because our server was friendly and attentive and the food was genuinely delicious. We will never be back though. Such a shame that the manager is the one that ruined the experience, that and the arctic...

If I could give service 1000 0’s for service today I would. We waited almost 40 minutes for food asked for plastic wear the manager refused to give it to us we been here 4 times in the last month my daughter in law and grandkids love this place visiting from KY. It was so embarrassing that waitress coming back saying the manager yelling at her not to bring us plasticware. I attempted to eat my cold food by going to the front asking guest services to have the manager come speak with me and give me plasticware even the guest services said she’s to busy in the kitchen she can’t come. I will be contacting corporate I sit here all this time from waiting for a seat to food and treated this way. The waitress was very professional Clarissa she need to be a manager she apologized 20 plus times. I NEVER ever been to an eatery and denied plasticware and a person from the management staff coming to speak with me. Very Poor management whoever the manager is need to be retrained asap and handled.

My daughter in law is pregnant and my grandkids had to eat after getting the plasticware Clarissa had to basically take them because she would not give them to her. My cold food untouched been here almost 1 1/2. It’s almost noon still no manager. The sad part the waitress said the manger’s are ignoring her to take my meal and discount for the inconvenience we don’t want to leave with paying but we were not able to complete the food. I’m overhearing other people complaining. We not looking for anything free we been paying towards her paycheck the manager company 3 times all we want is to be treated fairly it’s discrimination disrespectful and I’m not done. Make sure you get front and back of ticket 160550432 order 115-1. Not only poor service but the bugs out in open dead by the table made a note on the receipt front and back!! You need to...

Toasted Yolk is located across from Perry's Steakhouse in the Sugar Land Town Square. Free parking is available in the garages surrounding. You're able to put yourself on the wait-list ahead of time through Yelp or Google (via Yelp). The wait was short since we put ourselves on the list. We had the Southern Fried Arnold with Cheese Grits and the Shrimp & Grits. The Southern Fried Arnold was absolutely amazing; the gravy on top of the egg and chicken was just perfect. All the flavors complemented each other. The cheese grits were, by far, some of the best I've had at a restaurant and the fruit bowl consisted of grapes and cantaloupe. Very good. The shrimp was very flavorful and had a kick of spice to it with the grits. Also very good. We didn't try any of their adult beverages this time, however, all their mimosas looked amazing as they were bring brought out to the other tables. The service was okay. The waiter was friendly but lacked urgency. At one point we asked for water and it wasn't until the 3rd time that he walked by that we asked for an extra coke, that he remembered the water previously ordered. The atmosphere was great for the most part but far too many kids screaming or crying from multiple directions. It didn't strike me as that type of restaurant. Overall, I'd visit again for the food because it truly was delicious. I'd love to try a mimosa as well sometime.
