Metro Diner — Restaurant in Sulphur Springs

Where do I even start?! We came in this morning around 3:15AM, were greeted by a friendly lady who said she owned the business. She gave us our menus, took our drink orders and came back promptly to take our order. This is where everything went wrong. First the cook came out of the bathroom playing with her hair swinging it all over the dining room. Something that could have been done in the restroom where hair wouldn’t be floating around the dining area. But I let that slide because I have a very fussy toddler and I’m super exhausted. We waited a significant amount of time waiting for our food, again that’s fine. When we got our food my cranky toddler started yelling for the pancake so they offered to make her her own. I don’t expect that to be free. But when I tell you that NONE of our food was edible, I mean none. We took our daughters pancake because she yelled for it, but she would not eat it. Even she knew the food was deplorable. My husband had the frozen, prefab, chicken fried steak that was so bland and taste freezer burned. The bacon, that we requested to be crispy was burned beyond recognition. The eggs were suspect at best. The breakfast I ordered for my daughter was $5, my pancake was $3, the additional pancake $3, Jesse Jo’s combo $11, extra sausage $5.25, coffee $2.60, juice $2.30, pop $2.85, tax $2.82. $37.82 worth of food that wasn’t consumed. We weren’t checked on after our food was delivered. And we left within 5 minutes of the final plate being laid on the table. The owner asked if everything was okay, and I stupidly said it was fine because of exhaustion. Our table, and the untouched food was within distance it could easily be seen. I’ve worked food service, and if I see that someone hasn’t touched their food I’m going to do a little digging. I take pride in my food and my service. This place messed up an order for a simple Chicken Fried Steak Meal (Okay, sometimes mistakes happen, right) anyways… we called to have the order replaced, phone clerk said that’s fine, just tell them your name and we will remake it, I’ll let the mgr know. The very next day before departing back out of town, we called to get the subpar, incorrect chicken fried steak replaced. The lady on the phone said - we can not remake orders, call between 6a-2p. We said we do not live here, we were told to just come to have it replaced - the mgr would approve it because she would let her know (at time of incident). The lady over the phone said no, a mgr would need to clarify and then would not even state her name to validate that we at least called and tried, so that when speaking to a mgr futuristically - we could at least prove we tried to replace our order with (**) said person who took our call. She hung up instead of telling us. It was completely uncalled for as we were being extremely polite. We just wanted the food to be replaced. We decided to just drive to the establishment because at this point, service was 0-10 and we could not make amends via phone. Upon arrival, the clerk was short - but - eventually did replace the food. The cook was indolent and carefree. My husband and I drove over and hour to see a trailer and came here for breakfast. I would have given five stars but walking in the door and being hit by cigarette smoke was NOT pleasant! Smoking section is in the “back”, think side and no door trapping it over there, so it took a minute to adjust. If you are sensitive to smoke maybe go elsewhere. HOWEVER, that being said the food is DELICIOUS!!!! I had the Hobo breakfast and it was mouth watering good. Perfect eggs, crispy bacon, hash browns just the way I like them, and the sausage links were super tasty. Pancakes were perfect as well. Very pleased! Service was eh... not super friendly but helpful and checked on us. Lady running register was very pleasant and their cook needs to come set up a restaurant closer to our home lol

Pros: Delicious Food!!!!! Great price!!! Breakfast for myself, hubby and 18 month old was $19.00!!
