I’ve been wanting to try cafe Lola for some time. Customer service was ok. The girls weren’t warm and welcoming, but also weren’t cold or rude. They were just there. Starting off with the price, for my boyfriend and I, it cost about $48 (including tip). We ordered the pumpkin spice latte, Alex’s coffee, veggie scramble and the egg & turkey croissant. The food was decent enough. My veggie scramble was definitely made with fresh veggies and came with a side of fruit and toast. My boyfriend’s sandwich was decent as well. Definitely basic though, nothing mind blowing. Not saying that in a bad way, sometimes simple is better, but in this case it was just very expensive. Now let’s talk coffee. One of the main reasons I wanted to come here was for the Pumpkin spice latte. I had seen a video of the owner saying their pumpkin sauce is made in house. So naturally, I had to try it. Sadly, I was very disappointed. The drink itself was so sweet I could not even finish it. The pumpkin was so overpowering to the point where I couldn’t even taste the espresso. Then to top it off with pumpkin cold foam, pushed it overboard. Maybe I was expecting it to be less sweet given that it’s homemade? However, the thing that really threw me off was the drink having a gritty texture to it. Definitely not the best PSL I’ve ever had. If you don’t like your coffee overly sweet, I definitely recommend asking for less of the sauce. My boyfriend had Alex’s coffee and it was fine. His wasn’t overly sweet, but again you could not taste the espresso. We both would have liked more of a stronger tasting espresso. That’s just our preference. My issue with places like this is that they charge a premium for mid product. We don’t have a problem with spending money on good drinks/food, because it’s something we enjoy, but it has to be worth it. I feel like cafe Lola puts a lot of time and energy into presentation/aesthetics when they should be really focusing on quality of the product. If the drinks don’t taste as good as they look, then what’s the point? Having good product is what keeps us coming back. Don’t get me wrong, the cafe was very cute, but I’m not gonna go there simply for the looks. To end on a good note, I do really love that they have vegan/gluten...
Read moreI don’t like leaving bad reviews, but if I was the owner I would want to know how they could easily improve as the service was pretty bad today.
We went here for afternoon tea for my daughters birthday with friends. I’ve been to cafe Lola’s once before and it was great, the food was also great so no complaints there. The afternoon tea isn’t a traditional English afternoon tea as we were expecting - no sandwiches or scones, just grilled toasties and cakes.
We had to ask for cups and milk with the pots of tea, as they’d been forgotten. The pot of tea was put down right in front of my baby, with boiling water spilling out inches away from her. My friend asked at the counter for a candle as she was ordering more drinks, was told they should have one somewhere, then the staff just started serving someone else rather than retrieving a candle. Our highchair had broken straps, so I asked if we could possibly have a new one and the server said he would ask a colleague - we didn’t receive one and I could see they were busy so didn’t bother chasing it. Our server also couldn’t tell us which latte was which as she was putting them down… I assume she was new but she could’ve made an effort to find out which flavour she was serving.
Finally, the same server starting clearing things away slightly clumsily from under our table whilst we were still eating. When I was a waitress years ago we were always taught not to do that if customers were still eating, but maybe times have changed. During this process she must have cleared away the lid from my baby’s water cup, as it kept falling on the floor and I had forgotten to pick it up this time. I always make an effort to clean up the floor after we’ve eaten as babies are messy, and I did a thorough check whilst tidying away. I also asked another server if they could check if it had mistakenly been cleared away, but they couldn’t find it in the end. Not a huge deal, but just annoying as we now can’t take that bottle out of the house as the lid is missing. Overall just really disappointing for the amount we paid. Yes it was busy Saturday afternoon but all of this could have been avoided with better trained staff.
Again, I hate complaining, but it could have been so much better if they focused...
