I’d heard there was recently an ownership and management change here with positive results, and so it was time to see for myself. Impression in short: I’m VERY impressed already and I gather that there is more good to come! To elaborate: it’s now owned and operated by a family that’s also present, participative, and focused on having top notch talent providing personalized, attentive service. At this location I also loved the many tall windows that, combined with the crisp bright paint colors, making it very bright, awake, and alive feeling inside (helping to start the day!) without resorting to “gimmicks”/“quirkiness” that can be just plain “hokey” at other places (although that has its place elsewhere). Finally, the menu items evidently each have something special going on that’s top shelf and a pleasant surprise without being pretentious (e.g.- the Sakura ham in my eggs bennie made this perhaps the best bennie of the many I’ve ever had; the crème brûlée pancakes have a portion of real crème brûlée set into the top of a stack of three fluffy, light pancakes; and the bottomless mimosa was served with a separate carafe of fresh squeezed orange juice so one can mix the mimosa to personal taste, with no limit to how much juice or champagne is consequently used). All of this made me feel like this was upscale, relaxing, classy, fine dining brought to breakfast/brunch, but with pricing and portions that are at least as good if not noticeably better than other breakfast/brunch places in the area. Lastly, on-duty during my visit were wait- and kitchen-staff with serious fine dining pedigree, and it showed…Speaking of: special thanks to my Server, Travis, who had some great tips for menu choices and how to best enjoy the choices I made as I progressed through my meal along with excellent attentive service, which combined to make the experience much like going to a fine dining establishment for a special occasion, yet while dining alone at mere...
Read moreBF and I went for the all-you-can-eat tacos and margaritas. I opted out because there were no sides and got the ribeye instead.
I ordered a Martini and BFs meal came with Margaritas. I got my drink but had to flag down waitress after 10 min to get his. Why were they not out at the same time. Fine, no biggie.
My steak was on top of the mashed potatoes. I get it, ascetic and all, but a 14oz Ribeye with maybe a tablespoon of potatoes?? Ok, its bougie. Again, whatever.
BFs tacos come out. 3 street tacos, no sides. $35 for all you can eat he better eat a lot of tacos lol. No such luck. After finishing the first round we waited 30 minutes for the next round. Had to ask twice. Waitress claimed it takes time to make them. Ok but the restaurant wasn't busy and 30 min for 3 street tacos??
Waitress asked if I wanted bread after my steak was served. I love rolls so I gleefully accepted. 20 min later I flagged her down and asked about the rolls. She said they were being made fresh and would take a while. When they finally did come out they were cold, stale, and so bland I didn't even want to eat them. Could have at least brought butter.
At this point its been 1.5 hours. My steak was mostly fat so only ate half. Mashed potatoes were non existent. BFs had 3 street tacos but at least he got 2 margaritas. Were hungry, frustrated, and very unhappy. We felt forgotten. Waitresses could tell we were upset and offered to put his last batch (3) of tacos to go.
After all that the bill was $75 Before tip. Will NOT be returning. This was a Tuesday night with about quarter capacity. Not sure how they got 4.7 stars but from what I can tell theyre better for breakfast.
I usually very patient and forgiving as I know things can get hectic. But this was probably the worst experience I've had in a...
Read moreI recently visited La Madre with my husband and two children for breakfast. We were dressed casually, nothing extravagant but certainly appropriate for the occasion. This was our first time dining here, and unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing.
From the start, our server was noticeably dismissive. After seating us, he walked away without greeting us or offering menus, and it took about 20 minutes before he returned to take our order for coffee and breakfast. The food itself was decent, but the service was unacceptable. I ran out of water during our meal, and when we asked another staff member for assistance, she never followed through. Our server noticed us trying to get his attention, rolled his eyes, and walked away.
We waited over an hour and a half just to receive our bill. To make matters worse, the server mistakenly charged my card for another table. When I brought it up, his response was simply, “Oops, I got that wrong,” without any genuine apology. The manager came over, but instead of acknowledging the issue professionally, she brushed it off as a mistake and also failed to apologize.
What was especially disheartening was the stark difference in how we were treated compared to another family seated after us. That table received attentive, friendly service throughout, which left me with the impression that our appearance influenced the way we were treated.
Overall, the lack of professionalism from both the waiter and management made this a very unpleasant experience. Because of this, I would not recommend returning...
