I went in really hungry. One of those days where you’re too tired to cook, too drained to think, and all you want is something different. Not fancy, not expensive — just something made with care. I saw the special: grilled chicken burrito with rice and beans for $8.99. I thought, “Perfect.”
The tortilla? Honestly, delicious — warm, fresh, and comforting. But then I bit into the chicken and… it just felt sad. Dry, low-quality, almost like it didn’t want to be there either. The whole plate was missing that little bit of soul that turns a cheap meal into a small joy.
I’m not here to trash anyone’s business — I know times are hard for all of us. But maybe that’s why it hit me harder. In this economy, in this world where we’re all kind of surviving, why not try just a little harder? Why serve food that feels like giving up?
If you run a restaurant — especially a place that feeds people for under ten bucks — you’ve got power. You’re part of someone’s day, someone’s mood. You have a chance to make it better. So my question is: why not do better, if you can?
Because we all need something that feels good — even if...
Read moreMost flavorful refried beans I've had so far in Las Vegas fast food. I don't know why so many places seem to under-season their beans, but this Gerardo's definitely does not. I've gone there a few times now, and the beans have been consistently good. They have good flavor, seasoning, and seem to be hand mashed considering you get the odd whole bean in there.
This is why I always judge fast food Mexican restaurants by their Bean and Cheese burritos and their salsas. Easy way to tell whether or not they make good food because it boils down to the basics: beans, cheese, tortillas, and salsas. Speaking of which, their salsas are also both spicy and delicious. Many places do one or the other well. The red one is spicy and a little smoky, the habanero one is spicy and with a little more traditional orange salsa flavor (usually made with chile de arbol I believe).
And on that note, so far my favorite Bean and Cheese burritos and salsas in Mexican fast food in town so far. My second favorite overall behind a place...
Read moreWas visiting the area and felt like having Mexican food. Looked online at a bunch of different places and every dish at these places were about $15 minimum! A small bag of chips at one place was like $5.50. Ridiculous. I saw Gerardo's and the prices looked amazing and I was hoping the food would still taste great. I saw the enchilada combo didn't have pastor or cheese as options online, but when I called to place the order, the man on the phone didn't say no when I asked for those two fillings. Everything tasted amazing. Horchata was so good and refreshing. The green salsa packs a bit of a punch. And I'm sure the amount of chips we got in the container was much bigger than the "small bag" at the other place, and at half the cost! With 2 Combo plates, a big container of chips and salsa, and a large Horchata, it came out to about $21 which is pretty good in my opinion. I definitely...
