Chaat House is a bustling restaurant in a quaint complex, on a busy el camino.
The place is pretty popular lunch place for both Indian and non Indian crowd. This was one of the places where I have seen non-indian people also enjoying a meal alone ( Ideally they will be guided by a indian friend / co worker ) to help them learn the ropes. So kudos to Chaat House to achieve that feet.
I work in a tech company which has a Cafe (which is pretty good) but we more often then not tend to go out for lunch. We went to Chaat House today and all of us ordered the House Thali. It comes with 3 curries, Dal, White Rice. Raita, Papad and two rotis and a sumptuous glass of butter milk. I love their Onion Paratha and hence we got one to share. We also got onions with the thali, which i think is a pretty important ingredient with north Indian food. I am very picky about onions.. but that is a story for other time.
The service was fast and food was piping hot!! The place itself is pretty clean and that's an important thing for me when I go out, I am not too particular about the ambiance but the place should be clean.
The saag was amazing !! Aloo mutter was something like what my mom used to make so thats like one of the highest compliments I could give to the place. The kadi, was too infused with a lot of turmeric and a few of friends had residue yellow fingers after the meal :) The taste was good though. The paneer paratha is pretty good. We had to order one more for the table.
30$ for a lunch of 3 people with almost 0 wait time is pretty good by South bay standard.
Only reason I had given 4 stars and not 5 is, the guy at the counter is very particular about making changes to the thali, I was ready to pay extra but he said no changes mean no changes :) Customers need a way to eat what they want, without wasting food, as long as they are willing to pay...
Read moreChaat House has the cutest homely interior with old school TVs playing old Bollywood movies. You have a view of the cooks working hard in the kitchen and there is a very casual vibe. The cashiers and workers are really kind m, but they do not go above and beyond in any way. I usually get takeout of the rotis and a mango lassi. The prices for the rotis are quite cheap which I appreciate. $6.50 for 10 rotis. Talk about a deal! The rotis are soft and authentic, and this is quite visible when you first look at the roti. The rotis are of decent size and they remain fresh in their aluminum foil. For a delicious dessert I usually get a mango lassi as well. The mango lassi is a bit more expensive at $4 per drink. The mango lassi comes cold and tastes tart and fresh! OVERALL, the food for the price is very fresh and tasty, so I definitely recommend this joint to others as a causal place to dine. I will definitely be coming again when I get cravings for some refreshing mango lassi...
Read moreChaat House, Sunnyvale, CA is a very casual, informal, friendly place to eat. They have very good menu including Indian thali, different varieties of chaat, Popular SAMOSA, poori chola, chola Bhature & lots of desert items like gulab jamun, rasmalai. Jalebi motichoor LADDU. Few pointers: They are not full service restaurant. You have to self serve water & menu. Make selections. Order at counter, be seated, & then wait for order to arrive. Unlike us, we sat down first & waited for waiter to come. did not happen, then somebody reminded us to self serve & order first. Learnt something new. Dony is a wonderful, delightful & happy go lucky guy. Talk to him. He will solve most problems. First time we LOVED the food Tikki chola Chaat, Poori chola, ROTI chola, so we went again during afternoon & ordered some take away food for my flight back home to Columbia, MO. DONY: Thank you. You are special....
