Tl;dl Chicken. Chicken Legs. Ok let me give some background. Before Shah there was a wonderful Pakistani restaurant called Shalimar and at one time they expanded everywhere including Sunnyvale but now you need to go to Fremont (the original one) to taste it. And once Shalimar moved out of Sunnyvale I come to Shah if I don't feel like going to Fremont. Btw there is also Shan Restaurant nearby so don't be confused.
Shah serves Pakistani food which is basically the same as Northern Indian food (but Indians won't include Pakistani in the name whereas most Pakistan restaurants will say Pakistani and Indian food.). The interesting thing about Pakistani restaurants is their tandoori chicken is usually better tasting than Indian restaurants maybe because they bake them fresh instead of serving them in buffets. Hence the chickens are moist and flavorful. There is a slight kick to it so make sure you prepare for it. It's also bone in but I highly recommend you try the chicken legs. But of course you can opt for chicken breast which is bigger but less flavorful. The naan is also amazing since it's also baked fresh from the tandoori oven. The naan here is slightly thinner than those from Shalimar so I like them better here. The restaurant is clean and bigger than it looks from outside. This is a no hassle restaurant so you get tea, utensils and water yourself. I kinda like it that way. Also tipping is really optional so do it if you want to but not required. The server is usually fairly nice and they will bring out your food after you order and pay. Overall I like the restaurant and it's next to the strip mall next to...
Read moreI love this place. I am from Delhi so I often crave good mughlai food, and food in Shah always hits all those notes perfectly. I discovered them four years ago and have visited them every few weeks. This is my cohesive review of this place.
I usually go here when I am craving meat dishes be it kebabs or gravy based dishes. They never ever disappoint. All of the meat is succulent and has the right amount of moistness. None of their dishes come across as garlic infested dishes which is sadly quite prevalent in other El Camino restaurants.
The naans are so soft! They remind me of karim's in Jama Masjid/ old Delhi area everytime i have it.
The best part is this place isn't only meant for meat dishes. Their vegetarian food slaps ! Half my family is vegetarian so we always order one of the dals or Paneer dishes. All in all we always come back happy after eating at Shah. Lastly the cherry on top is the warmth of the owner. He will always greet you and happily bring all the food.
Lastly, we also used them to cater food at our home parties. The owner was able to accommodate our timings and dietary / spice...
Read moreI had the pleasure of dining at Shah Restaurant recently, and it left quite an impression. Their late-night service, open till 1 am, is a convenient bonus. We ordered a delightful array of dishes, including paneer masala with garlic naan, chicken sheekh kabob, palak chicken, and chicken biryani.
While the ambience was decent, it was the food that truly shone. The chicken sheekh kabob was a standout – I can confidently say I haven't had such delectable chicken sheekh kabob in a long time. The flavors were exceptional, and the preparation was spot on. It's a must-try.
But there was more to praise. Shah Restaurant surprised us with complimentary tea, which was a delightful touch. The service was notably swift; we didn't have to wait long for our orders to arrive.
All in all, Shah Restaurant is a hidden gem for lovers of Indian cuisine, with its scrumptious food, late hours, and attentive service. I'll be returning for that chicken sheekh...
