Mystic Pizza .... meet ...... Lobstah Love !!!
For a more detailed review go to Trip Advisor and read my review under SwissPinkPanther where I have well over 100,000 readers and 120 reviews. This is my first Google review and for good reason... the Maine Lobstah Shack is exceptional !!!
Soooo....Who would have thunk that Julia Roberts would be making a sequel to " Mystic Pizza " called " Lobstah Love " starring Trevor Dorstie on location at the Maine Lobstah Shack on Topsail Island, NC.
For those who have seen the movie, Mystic Pizza, you will get my bit of humor. For those who haven't, its the story of a group of wonderful employees, hard at work, at a yet to be discovered pizza establishment in Mystic CT. Undiscovered that is until a renown food critic stops in and is blown away by the taste and quality of the pizza. Once his review is published, Mystic Pizza can't make pizzas fast enough to meet demand.
I would like to think that I am that food critic who reports on " my discovery " of the Maine Lobstah Shack. It clearly deserves my 6 star rating , oh sorry, Google only allows a max of 5 stars (smile).
The Maine Lobstah Shack is located just over the bridge to Surf City. It looks like a movie set of coastal Maine with an atmospheric Maine lobster shack over looking the waterway. Nothing fancy about it just down home in feel just like Mystic Pizza,
Upon arrival, you stand outside in line, place your order and then proceed to a covered seating area with picnic benches. Your food is then brought to you while seated and taking in the beauty of the waterway.
Don't be surprised that while waiting in line to order you are warmly welcomed and offered a taste of either the lobster bisque or clam chowder. How nice a greeting is that ? Just a taste of this amazing lobster bisque, and I do mean amazing with big pieces of lobster floating through out, sold me on the fine dining experience to come.
As I stood in line, I over heard the conversation between the customer in front and the co-owner, who I found out was Trevor Dorstie.
The man , who was alone , was placing an order for lobster bisque, The Wicked Mainah Roll ( that contains 1/2 Lb of lobster) and the Lobster Mac and Cheese. Now Trevor could have processed the order but instead was trying to talk the man out of ordering so much food. Trevor's focus was on the customer enjoying his dining experience without over spending. How admirable is that ? !!!
Trevor is a very laid back and sociable type of guy. Not surprisingly, we learned that he and his " extended family " of helpers are all from Maine. Apparently they are well connected to the lobster industry in Maine which is key for their getting fresh lobster shipped to NC daily.
My family ordered 1/4 pound Maine Lobster Rolls and the Lobster Bisque and we all can attest to it being one of the best lobster rolls and bisque we've ever consumed. Excellent toasted roll, with drawn butter and mayo to accent the large pieces of fresh and tender lobster meat piled on top....and at a price below lobster rolls I've eaten from Maine to NY. Who would have thunk that I would have had to travel to NC to experience such an affordable treat.
Now last but not least...the service ..... from the moment we got our samples of soup waiting in line , to the placement of our order to the good wishes from Trevor upon leaving ....the service and more so their sincere interest in us having a superb dining experience was over the top. Yes, I truly wish Trevor's extended family well on this their relatively new venture... they and their food deserve it !!!
Not surprisingly, The Lobstah Shack is the only game in town when it comes to fresh lobster rolls and lobster bisque. Yes I checked the menus of the other 7 seafood restaurants in the area. If you're tired of eating fried flounder , shrimp and crab and seek a FRESH dining experience then The Lobstah Shack it is.
Now if I can only get this review published in Gourmet or Bon Appetite magazine ..(smile) the movie ending of" Lobstah Love " would...
Read moreWe found Maine Lobstah Shack through Google, just searching for good places to eat while on vacation. With hundreds of reviews, a 4.9 star rating, and a love of fresh seafood, we figured we had to give this place a try.
From the time we arrived, just shortly before closing, Trevor greeted us as if we were VIP clients. He was helpful in navigating the menu and making recommendations. He enthusiastically told us about their food and the effort that goes into it - without being overbearing or high-pressure.
We ordered the Maine Roll and the lobster grilled cheese w/ lobster bisque. While waiting, one of the staff treated us to a sample of clam chowder and the lobster bisque, and some outstanding chunky lobster pieces with drawn butter. They were the best of each I've ever had! The lobster was fresh and delicious, chowder was creamy and savory, and the bisque with a sweet and sherry flavor.
Our main food came in a timely manner, served by staff who are friendly and clearly enthusiastic about their job. The lobster was chunky and flavorful, not shredded and diluted among the rest of the food like many other places. You want big chunks of the star flavor to chew on while eating, right? The breads of the sandwich and roll were delicious, but didn't take away from the key ingredient at all. Portions, well, I could've eaten a lot more for sure, but were great.
While eating, Trevor came to check on us, make sure we were enjoying the food, and stuff. We struck up a conversation and he was happy to refer us to some of the other local food places, some that we might not have otherwise found, all with great reviews and service. He is clearly passionate about what he does.
So if you're looking for a really swell place to enjoy some fresh seafood, dine in a relaxing atmosphere along a scenic park, meet the locals and get clued in on some great stuff to do while around Topsail, Maine Lobstah Shack delivers...
Read moreThe Maine Lobstah Shack in Surf City, North Carolina, is a gem of a seafood shack that exceeded our expectations. From the moment we walked up, we were greeted with warm, friendly smiles and a beachey chill atmosphere.
The Lobster Rolls were simply delicious, with perfectly cooked meat that was bursting with flavor. We were told that the lobster had just arrived from Maine 20 min before. It was hands down the best lobster I have ever had. The bread was fresh and toasted but soft, holding everything together beautifully. We were treated to samples of Lobster Bisque and Clam Chowder, both equally impressive.
But what truly stood out was the hospitality we received from the owners and staff who went out of their way to ensure we had a wonderful experience. Their attention to detail was exceptional, and we felt truly valued as customers.
In addition to the great food and wonderful service, the Maine Lobstah Shack also had a good selection of drinks to choose from, which made our meal all the more enjoyable. Try a Whoopie Pie for dessert. The beautiful outdoor seating area was the perfect place to enjoy our meal, with picturesque views that added to the ambiance of the dining experience.
Overall, I would highly recommend the Maine Lobstah Shack to anyone looking for an authentic seafood experience in Surf City, North Carolina. With its delicious fresh Lobstah, welcoming atmosphere, and excellent service, it's truly a gem that's...
