Santorini Greek & Italian Bistro — Restaurant in Surf City

Well recently relocated to the area and have been trying to find new places to dine. We dropped in on a Saturday evening and it was apparent from the car park this place draws a crowd. We were immediately greeted by the hostess and seated at a table. I think we were lucky to get in without a reservation or a wait.

The drinks menu was tempting and a glance at the menu made me think it would be a tough decision as there were many mouth watering appetizers, main dishes, salads and desserts. Our waiter was young but very attentive, getting our drinks and taking our order right away. I decided upon the Greek Spaghetti. It was so full of flavour and absolutely delicious. My husband had the spaghetti and meatballs. I didn’t taste his but he said it was very good. The portions were generous and we requested containers for take away.

We topped off the dinner with the tiramisu and as we were finishing, the owner of the restaurant came and checked on us to see how everything was. It was a personal touch that doesn’t happen very often, especially in todays day and age when chain restaurants take over.

If you find yourself in Surf City from Tuesday to Saturday and you want to have fantastic dinner, supporting a locally owned and managed restaurant this is the place. Might want to call ahead though -even if you don’t- it would be...

So we have lived in Surf City as long as Santino's has been open, but we have not tried another pizza from here after not really liking it three years ago. We decided to try it again after finding out Max's was closed for vacation. I talked my wife into trying Santino's again and she agreed and told me to call them and order since they close at 9pm. I called in at 8:33 only to have a rather obstinate young lady tell me they shut off their ovens at 8:30 and she offered no flexibility despite me asking her to reconsider. Little did I know I should write that young lady a big Thank you card. After brewing over our conversation while trying to figure out how I was going to solve my pizza craving, I asked my wife if she was willing to try a personal pizza from a place we had never tried called Peak. I called the bartender at Peak about 8:45 and he was more than happy to make us pizzas despite closing at 9pm as well. OMG, we both loved it and now have our favorite pizza place on the island. I'm leaving a 5 star review because I also own a business and understand the impact a negative review can leave.

I have driven past Santinos numerous times but never had the urge to stop in. This evening, I decided to take my wife there for our 9th Wedding Anniversary.

I ordered a Chicken Marsala and my wife a Chicken Francese. What I received was Chicken with flavored pasta water. I really like the fact that Santinos exists in this area with all the bars around. They have the opportunity to be so much more, for a little investment in ingredients and time they could've made an amazing flavourful dish if they had just reduced a mushroom infused marsala wine added pancheta in with their mushrooms and emulsified cold butter into the SAUCE before plating. This, I wouldve paid $20 for. Not the equivalent of a hospital cafeteria meal that I received.
