14 yrs of coming to Topsail this is the worst house we have ever rented. If I was Island Real Estate I would not even have this house as an option. From what I understand the owner is trying to sell this house and you couldn't give it to me free. They have done no upkeep on this house at all. When we first got there the commode in the half bath was running so we had to call the office first thing because it had to be fixed (which I think the cleaning people should have noticed that and had it fixed before we got there). The downstairs had a musty smell, so we got air freshener to help with that. My son and his wife didn't tell me until later in the week that the light in the ceiling fan had went out so he climbed up on the bed to change the bulb. He said there was so much dust and dirt on the globe and fan it was ridiculous. They also said there was trash all under the bed. Also the ceiling fan in the living room was out and we couldn't replace it because it was too high to reach. The main Tv only had the roku remote so closed caption had to be on all the time. We couldn't use the cable because we didn't have the remote to the Tv and we couldn't stream because everytime we tried to go to a different channel it would go out. So we had one station all week. The Wi-Fi was horrible. We were there when the storm Debbie came in and this house had leaks over the kitchen table and one of the boys where the daybed is had water to flowed out of the windowsill and got his head wet. The next morning the floors, walls and even the stair railing was all damp and sticky. The sliding door had water standing in the track. The fireplace even had water in it. Most of the outlet covers are curled out which is either water damage inside the walls or the electric needs to be checked. They said there was a coffee maker and ice maker which there was no icemaker and we had to buy a new coffee maker because there were no coffee pots. The air conditioner was not adequate for that size house. The downstairs stayed warm. We found a couple bugs inside and several on the porches so I hope they spray for them. The same boy that had water dripped on his head woke up in the middle of the night and a large bug (either a water bug or roach) was coming down the wall over him. The teenagers were very disappointed when there was no hammock and no darts for the dart board. Also on the last day the GFI outlet in the half bath went out too. I was ready to get out of this house. According to the neighbors everyone has had the same complaints. I wish there was a minus on the rating because that is what...
Read moreHouse had many issues including not just a leaking ceiling in the kitchen. The leak was a down pour and left a terrible mess for us to clean up. We called Cathy immediately nsince it was our 1st night there. She made it sound like she would have someone out Sunday. No one showed up until Tuesday night. We were unable to use that bathroom. Mind you we were celebrating our daughter returning from deployment. Cathy didn't care or even appreciate. One apology and not sincere was given. The great part about a beach front house is you can sleep with the screen door open. Not when the screen is broke. Reported it and was never fixed while there. We never used the street side deck until it was almost time to leave. It was raining and we wanted to see how flooded the street was. No handle to slide the door shut. Reported it and Cathy pretty much accused us of breaking it. We have stayed on the island for the last 12 years or so. We are adults not kids and this handle was missing not broken by us. The best part - they have extra blankets in the closet. We grabbed one and covered up with it one day on the couch. My grandaughter and I were covered in bites everywhere. I have pictures and no reaction from Cathy. I've used several others rental agencies on the island. They have all been great. Stay away from Cathy! Oh the house was Mallorca. The house itself was beautiful but bring a broom and kitchen gadgets preparing food was tricky. (bring can opener, extra knives, vegtable peeler) Every house I have ever stayed at always had the essentials....
Read moreThis is my third time renting this property, 2011, 2012 and recently. I absolutely love the location, it's right on the beach and there is no other home directly next to it. However, in the last decade the home has deteriorated. The house sways/rocks in the wind or when someone walks through. It is beginning to sag on both sides. I'm short, so I couldn't read the controls on the stacked dryer. My biggest concern, however is the condition of the deck. Many of the boards are rotting and loose and I stepped on one of the many exposed rusty nails more than once. I'm at the beach and do not wear shoes; shoes are a must on this deck. There are gaps large enough for a small foot to get stuck; I would not want my grandchildren playing on it. The rail on the right side of the lower section of the stairs is also loose and there needs to be another step at the bottom or more sand. There is not enough hot water; our showers were speed-wash and we had to ensure enough time between showers so the last person had some. The front and back doors need to replaced or cleaned, they are filthy and the front steps are also a concern. The outside shower on the stairs was not hooked up; no big deal we used a bucket to rinse our feet, but don't advertise the outside shower if it's not operable. And please, update the visitors' book; I find that very helpful in rental properties. Everything being said, would I rent this property again? No, and that makes me sad as the 2 years we rented a decade ago were so wonderful...
