Being that I am super familiar with these type of establishments, having prepared pizza and other items listed on their menu from scratch - dough, cheese, sauce, etc. I can absolutely state with 100 percent accuracy that the 2 items; pizza and garlic cheese breadsticks (2 frozen "Cheese Garlic Bread" sticks) breadsicks with melted processed cheese for $4.84, minus garlic, where's the garlic?) - COMPLETELY FROZEN / PROCESSED / STRAIGHT FROM THE CAN. Utterly a disappointment and will not return/recommend. I would be ashamed to serve such. A frozen pizza from the freezer section at any gstore and or cstore tops them by far. I cannot understand the positive reviews. One of the reviews posted stated that the customer was charged additional for using their credit card? I surely hope not. I was asked cash or card, but nothing was disclosed to me that I would be charged extra for using my card. Lastly, when you have an additional topping added only to half a pizza, you should not be charged for the full topping price. I am very against wasting food. However, we didn't even finish one breadstick nor have a second slice. I wouldn't feed it to my dog, he wouldn't eat it if I had. I tipped $2 for a pick-up, just for the record.

We had never tried Max's Pizza until today. We arrived about 1145am, we were greeted immediately, seated at a booth as we requested, and we met Jessica our amazing waitress. Kind, courteous, and quick ! We ordered our drinks, and garlic cheese bread as a starter. It was 10/10 hot, fresh and delicious ! Our pies were cheese, and a pepperoni, we asked for light sauce, and a crispier crust. It was done perfectly 👌. Our pies were delicious, excellent sauce ! Jessica made sure we had everything we needed, during our visit, she was awesome. The bill was about $50, which I consider a bargain for good food and a family of four. I read the reviews for the restaurant before we came, and while everyone is entitled to their opinion, some of them are just malicious. A pizza place, at the beach, is going to be super busy, expect some wait time. An overwhelmed restaurant at peak time, might make a mistake, be patient and kind. This pizza parlor is a hit, and we highly recommend you give it a try ! An update, we picked up take out of 2 pizzas 🍕 today 9/20/25. They were both PHENOMENAL ! Easy to order by phone, ready right on time, pizza was delicious 😋

Max’s is a Surf City landmark and one of my favorite places to eat on the island. My family are long time patrons here and it’s a Friday-night staple in the off season. If you’re in the mood for pizza or subs they’re a solid choice. There’s other Italian fare on the menu, although I’ve admittedly never tried it because I can’t go there without having either a delicious steak and mushroom sub or some fantastic pizza and an ice cold beer. Other members of my family have tried the lasagna, fettuccine alfredo, etc. and they always enjoy their meals. The salads are great as well. Along with awesome food, you’ll find a cozy and welcoming atmosphere and the friendliest wait staff around! There will be a pretty long wait during the busy season but it’s well worth it!!

Food is okay, service was really horrible. My order was 45+ mins late. They apparently forgot to make half of my order (a kids hot dog & fries, and a turkey sub) and unbelievably they didn’t even realize it until I had already been waiting almost 30 mins and asked how much longer it would be. They said it would take 6 mins to make the missing items. I only waited bc it was food for my child. I asked if my pizzas were still hot or had been just sitting there while I had been waiting, so they could rewarm them if needed. They assured me that they hadn’t been just sitting and were still hot. My food finally came out like 10 mins later and guess what my pizzas were 100% cold. Then I had to wait again while they were warmed up - even though I asked for them to be warmed if needed. This whole time, they made no offers to do anything to compensate for the wait or the issues with my order. I was so frustrated and had groceries in the car that I didn’t bother. To top it all off, I checked my turkey sub and it had tomatoes on it which I did not want. Oh well, I can just take them off. But once at home, about 2/3 of the way through the 1st half of my sub, I realized they had put melted mozzarella cheese on the sub. I had checked multiple times for cheese as I am pretty badly lactose intolerant but didn’t see it bc it was melted and wrapped INSIDE the turkey meat. I am so mad. I am definitely going to get sick now from the cheese. I called to tell them bc this was just too much at this point and they apologized but then tried to say that I didn’t specify no cheese. Even though I told them twice what was on the sub bc they asked me when they needed to make it. They said they would refund the sub but didn’t seem to take it too seriously. After all that a bit more compensation or something should have been warranted. Extremely disappointed....

We ended up at Max's Pizza on a whim. Originally we were planning on celebrating our daughter's engagement at a sit down restaurant, had made prior arrangements to be there however upon arrival and going to the bar and ordering a round for the party the restaurant bar staff was not pleasant, nor welcoming and simply rude and indifferent. Deciding not to spend any further money at a place that was clearly not customer friendly we all decided to keep it simple and to go Max's for pizza. The staff at Max's was simply wonderful! They seated our party and engaged us as welcome guests. Our server Alex was fantastic! He was super attentive, accurate and friendly. The food was awesome, and after multiple rounds of apps, and drinks and then our meals it was a fantastic experience. I cannot say enough about how the staff, the manager and of course the wait staff were attentive to our group. Food was awesome, reasonably priced and a great value. Most notably was the customer service. This place understands the assignment! The "sit down" high end restaurant staff and management could learn a thing or two from these folks! Well done and thank you from salvaging a very negative experience at the "other" place and turning our celebration into a very pleasant experience! You have my highest recommendation to take your family here for not only great food, but a customer centered, friendly and welcoming environment. I will definitely be back and will definitely tell all our friends and neighbors to make sure Max's is a must stop! As a property owner in NTB, and part time resident I Look forward to seeing you...

I'm totally down to pay good money for good food, but I was disappointed yet again in my ongoing quest to find decent Italian food in places that are sneakers and flip flop friendly.

Don't get me wrong, the portion of food that I received for the Chicken Marinara would have definitely made it worth the $21+ price tag, but the food was off. I love me some chicken, but when this dish arrived and it was 'grilled' instead of breaded, I was already a bit upset. I don't recall the menu saying what kind of chicken you get, so this could be chalked up to either 1) the restaurant's fault for not explaining, or 2) my fault for not asking. I'll give this one a pass and say that it was my fault because hey, I love grilled chicken too, as long as it taste good. But there is where the problem was. It was like rubber and didn't taste much better. There was no way those huge chunks were getting cut into smaller pieces with the butter knife that was given.

The garlic cheese bread was pretty good, but should have been cut into pieces. Again, trying to cut that so two people could eat it wasn't easy with a butter knife. When I saw it, the first thing I thought was "This would be amazing with some meatballs in it and eaten like a sub." The garlic bread that came with the meals was very good as well; and it was sliced on top in a way that allowed it to be easily pulled apart.

Maybe it was just an off day for the chicken, but that did it in for me. Otherwise, the atmosphere was nice, our waitress was amazing and the location seemed to have...
