I had a chance to stop by this sushi joint for the first time today and I ordered 2 signature rolls and 1 ramen entree for takeout.
No experiences are perfect and there is no way to execute the dishes in a way that they appeal to everyone. Although there were some shortcomings with my experience (some due to the inevitable subjectivity of food in general), the experience was still relatively very good and deserving of a 5-star rating.
Read on for more of my experience.
Out of Control This is one of the rolls recommended by the server. I personally did not care much for it. It came with a sweet but light sauce drizzled over the roll. The sweet flavor was subtle so I liked that it wasn't overwhelming in that regard, but I didn't really notice much of other flavors and found the dish to be ultimately a little bland.
I'm So Hot I'm a fan of spicy food, and as a result, naturally a fan of spicy tuna, salmon, and other spicy seafood mixtures. I had to try this one out. This roll had a slight kick and I enjoyed it. The level of spiciness was just right and the roll overall was flavorful and tasty.
Tonkotsu Ramen The broth was thick and flavorful, but maybe too concentrated? The flavors were a bit overwhelming and it came off as salty. I had a love and hate relationship with it and enjoyed the dish and disliked it at the same time. Aside from the broth, the noodles were also a letdown as they were just cheap basic noodles, but chashu and the egg were well executed. I personally enjoyed the egg the most from this dish. The yolk was fully cooked through so I was initially disappointed but to my surprise it was super tender and flavorful and paired incredibly well with the broth.
Service As for service, there's really not much that can go wrong for a takeout order. Upon entering the store for pickup, I was promptly greeted and the entire process of making the payment and receiving my food was carried out in a timely manner. However, I had to knock a point for service due to the fact that they forgot to provide me with soy sauce when 2/3 of my order was sushi. It's a mistake that can happen but it's a critical mistake, nonetheless.
Verdict I was satisfied with my visit but not to the extent that I'll be counting the days before my next visit. If I revisit, I will definitely reorder the "I'm...
Read moreDined at this establishment on 9/10/22. It’s small but cute. Service was good, there is only 1 service & food was tasty. My bill was $47.70 & I left a $10 cash tip. The charge did not hit my account until Thursday & my card was charged $56.70. I went back to the establishment for the young lady to tell me maybe the server added $9. I explained to her that I left more than a 20% tip in cash, why would he do that?! It is also illegal. I advised her that this is not a good practice to have. I saw the server while I was there & he was extremely nervous pacing & could not look me in my face. I would bet this is not the first time he did this, just the first time he was caught. Many people do NOT check their credit card statements!! If you dine here, I would suggest you pay in cash or make sure your statement matches your receipt!! I was given my $9 back however I am not satisfied at all. Although apologetic, they tried to excuse illegal behavior. My first & last time at this establishment. This is not “slanderous”, it is the TRUTH!! Furthermore, if it were a batching “error” why discipline him? Someone taking a pen and making a $0 into a $9 is not a batching error. A server should NEVER take a pen to a customer’s receipt!! You can continue to excuse the behavior as you did again in your reply. The bottom line is that it is illegal and wrong!!!! The lady I spoke with at the restaurant blatantly told me she did not believe he did it on purpose!! Yet, she also said on “he made it a $9”. How is changing a customer’s receipt on your own after a customer is gone an accident or “batching error”? Save your replies cause I'm not interested, as it is very contradictory. Word to the wise, you should never apologize to the victim, excuse the behavior of your employee & try to accuse the victim of wronging your employee & establishment at the same time!! Hopefully he has learned that he cannot get away with...
Read moreWe found this place on a whim and I am going to make a declaration. This is by far the best sushi anywhere this neighborhood. Mori House has been a long time favorite, but the rice and quality of the fish are just impeccable.
So why 3 stars?
I have been here a couple of times and service is painfully slow. I have never gotten a beverage or water in less than 15 minutes and the food, no matter what you order will always come out at the same time about 45 mins after you order it. Tried to do lunch here and I ended up being put behind for meetings because on top of these listed delays, it took another 15 minutes to pay the bill after asking for it.
So let's do this review another way.
If you have time. I mean a lot of time, like two hours worth of time to sit around, this place is worth every penny. Chill music, good beverage selection and amazing food, IMPECCABLE!! Five stars all the way around.
Scenario two. If you need a bite and want sushi quickly and need to be anywhere else in the next hour, do not come here. You will be the one star frustrated reviewer with a day thrown into chaos.
Happy waiting or happy eating, it's a choose your own adventure...
