Been here a few times after hearing it might be a little racist. I have never experienced anything of that sort until "Jason" "served" me. 1st time I brushed it off as he's only doing his job and didn't worry about his lack of hospitality. 2nd time, I sat at the bar, he ignored me doing all side work in front of my face (dishes, ice , cleaning) until someone else came in. He quickly helped them, with great customer service, then stood in front of me without a word. At this point I'm working on how to address the situation tactfully and respectfully because maybe there's a misunderstanding?.... Even though no words were spoken between us. Eventually I ask if there is a problem between us because I noticed he had me waiting for 10 minutes before even showing any kind of attention, smile, wave, a gesture to show he's busy and will get to me in a moment, nothing. After inquiring, I'm told there's one now that I asked for the purpose to clear up any problem he may have had with me. He tried to kick me out, I sat there and asked why he would kick me out when all I asked is for a drink and if there's a problem. He eventually makes the drink. He wouldn't have made it if there was a real problem in the first place. I was going to let another manager know how I was treated by him but locals suggested to leave it alone because he's family with the owners. That gives him no right to treat certain people a kind of way. I've been in customer service, hospitality all my working life. Times like this it's hard to blanket it as racism, there were black and brown people that were served no problem. It definitely seems like a selective prejudice towards certain people. I don't like to attribute to malice what could be attributed to a hard or stressful day or time in life, we all are going through life and dealing with it our own ways. However, a prick is a prick. And Josh has been the only person that I experienced that cwould give the Peterson Bros 1111 Bar a racist connotation from many of the locals, if you're not a regular. How do you become a regular when treated with such disrespect on every occasion from...
Read moreFollowing another PT session today, it was off to find food before running errands. Peterson Brothers 1111 is in an older part of Tacoma with street parking only. It took 2 turns around the block before we saw a vehicle vacating and snagged a parking spot almost directly from the entrance. Had there not been one, we would have added it to the list of restaurants where we would like to dine but has no available parking.
We entered and immediately found a table. This is an old bar with a huge counter and bar stools. There are tables on the north and west sides. Being a bar, it was dark so taking pictures was not easy.
While the menu isn’t extensive, the offerings were varied and interesting enough that it took Ray and me several minutes to decide what to order. Ray had The SmokeStack. I ordered the Turkey Chipotle Melt. They don’t serve fried food. Our sandwiches came with a bag of Tim’s chips and a pickle. Soup or salad can be added for an additional charge.
I asked the bartender for a recommendation, and told her my dilemma. It was nice to hear her take, instead of hearing “everything is good”.
Ray and I both wanted coffee which they do not serve. I found that odd because my adult beverage of choice is made with coffee. Ray had lemonade. I had water.
Our meals came up fairly quickly. Our sandwiches were loaded with meat, and had fresh, crisp vegetables. The bread was heated without being rock hard. We agreed they were very good. We were only able to eat half. The other half we wrapped up and brought home.
There was just a bartender and cook for staff that I could see. The bartender greeted and acknowledged everyone as they came in, and was fast, efficient and friendly.
While the food was very good and the service was excellent, locating parking will be a deal breaker for us. Ray and I live on 30 acres and are wide open spaces type of people. Going to Tacoma is a necessary evil. Hunting for a parking spot is not our idea of a good time. If you don’t mind, then I recommend...
Read moreDisclaimer: I love this bar and have always had a good time there, or have enjoyed my food when I've ordered take out....that is what made yesterday's experience so out of pocket... Called an order in for pick up (meatloaf sandwhich, Italian sandwhich and a cup of soup). Im told 22 minutes. That was at 725pm. No problem. My wife calls me from 1111 25 minutes later to ask me what I put in as an order, when she should just be picking up the food by then. I tell her the order, think thats weird, but whatever. She THEN texts me to say "I dont think they had the order in. They didnt say that she says, but they told me its going to be 15 minutes." Well of course thats what happened but the fact they dont communicate that is a little annoying, but fine....Fast forward ANOTHER 40 minutes before my wife gets the 2 sanwhiches; one was wrong because she doesnt know theres meatloaf on Thursday, and they dont communicate what the "special" is to her. She thinks im confused on the menu (Shouldnt matter anyway, because there should already be an identical order in for what I phoned in, right?) Our order also doesnt have both chips AND soup as I ordered either, but they didnt know that because our original order was NEVER put in. They just took my wife's order in the bar and attempted to pass it off like they were just slammed and soooo behind, it would take that 15 minutes to make, turned into an hour to make. No apology, no acknowledgement, that that was an unacceptable experience...nothing. As a former waitress, and current teacher, I can deal with a lot things, but at this stage in my life, a call out is warranted when there is NO acknowledgement of a clear mistake on the part of the service side. Not cool 1111. You're better...
