Food was okay (I will explain why I still give 1 star later in this post); not worth the $50+ I ended up paying after paying a gratuity before even being served (which was my fault, because I couldn't foresee what would happen later and because I was feeling generous and the staff seemed nice). The gratuity wasn't deserved after all since they took forever to cook and bring us our food, we had to bus our own table (which was dirty when we arrived), get our own drinks, and order at the counter. The tables are also way too close to each other to comfortably seat yourself. We had to contort our bodies just to sit on the wall bench. This restaurant is already an extremely strong argument against tipping culture, and I haven't even gotten to the food part yet!
We ordered the campfire hash and the chicken and egg sandwich. The hash was decent; the side potatoes weren't seasoned too well but it was overall an okay meal. The sandwich, however, was given to us with a hair in it. And it wasn't a tiny hair, it was the server's long, wiry, blonde hair. When we brought attention this hair in our food, the server said "whoops," quickly plucked it out, and gave the sandwich back. Regretfully, we're non-confrontational people so we sat there, aghast, without requesting that the server make another sandwich free of his hair. So we just didn't eat the bread, and it ended up tasting like something you could make at home.
For dessert we had the coconut cake. It was too sweet and there wasn't any care in the presentation; the cake's frosting had broken off and it tasted like it wasn't cooked all the way through. In fact, I think they just gave us what was in the refrigerator so I'm not sure how old it was.
At any rate, I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a good brunch experience. It's too expensive for the quality of service and food you get. We will never eat at this establishment again and we hope others follow suit, rather than settling here because they...
Read moreIf you’re looking for a new spot to indulge in mouthwatering food and great coffee, 3 Hearts Cafe on MLK is the place to be! A much-needed addition to the Hilltop neighborhood, this café offers a vibrant atmosphere and a stellar menu that will transport you straight to Flavortown.
We tried a few items during our visit, and every single one was a hit. The sausage roll was perfectly flaky and packed with flavor, while the blueberry muffin was bursting with sweetness in every bite. But the true star of the show was the huevos rancheros—absolutely to die for! Rich, flavorful, and expertly prepared, it’s the kind of dish that makes you want to come back for more.
On top of the food, the coffee is exceptional. Whether you’re a casual coffee drinker or a connoisseur, you’ll find something to satisfy your caffeine cravings.
The only suggestion I have for the café is to add a lighted open sign. It's a bit tricky to tell if they’re open during the early morning hours, but that's a minor detail in what is otherwise an outstanding experience.
All in all, 3 Hearts Cafe is a must-visit—whether you’re a local or just passing through. The food, coffee, and welcoming atmosphere are all top-notch, and you won't regret...
Read moreI came back from the gym to find a sandwich labeled "tofu" that my partner had brought home. At first I was moderately irritated because I thought it was a Vietnamese tofu banh mi sandwich. I don't have any issue with plant-based foods but really don't like tofu, especially in my banh mi.
Turns out it was leftover from a work event so she brought the extra home for me. Feeling bad for complaining about free food, and upon learning it wasn't a tofu banh mi, I took a closer look.
I opened the sandwich and pulled out a piece of the tofu. Holy @#$%ing moly! This might have been one of the best dang things I've ever tasted.
I heated up the rest of the sandwich in the air fryer and then went to town on it. An absolutely amazing sandwich! So darn good and clearly, highly, highly, recommended.
Only potential downside is the cost. I took at look at the website and this is a $16-$17 sandwich. Maybe the one I had was smaller due to it being for a catered event and the regular ones are larger, no idea. I don't fault the owners for charging what the market will bear and they obviously have to make a living. I don't live in Tacoma so doubt I'd be a regular customer anyway.
It was still a very, very, very good sandwich. Thanks...
