today, I wanted to focus on my beautiful mother and her favorite pho restaurant, Pho Bac Cafe, located on hilltop in tacoma. not only is this the first Vietnamese restaurant my mom ever went too (she discovered it by just walking the streets of tacoma with my older brother). but it’s literally the only restaurant she will ever go out to eat at. I grew up with my parents taking me here as a kid and I think there’s some attachment my mom feels because of the memories with my dad before he passed. ✹ Sunny, the owner of Pho Bac CafĂ©, has been taking over for his parents for a while now, with his parents retired (he says his mom still stops by a lot lol). this location has been open since 1983 despite the sign saying 1986 and known for their simplicity of their food and authentic viet flavors. pho, eggs rolls, spring rolls and viet coffee. that’s it. the recipe has never changed and that’s why my mom has been coming here since 1990. growing up with a Vietnamese mother who loves how to cook has been one of my biggest blessings. I was able to grow a diverse palate at a young age and was introduced to many different flavors throughout my life. not only is my mom incredible in the kitchen, but she’s one of the strongest women I know. to have survived the Vietnam war, while carrying my brother through bombs and hiding underground, then moving to the Philippines to learn English and eventually immigrating to America with nothing, to start a new life from scratch. without her, there would be no me, so I honor her every day for the sacrifices she’s made so I can have the life I have today. lately, around these small businesses, is new construction that has taken over what use to the parking lot. Sunny says many customers, senior citizens and families are struggling to come because of the difficulty of finding parking. â˜č so if u can, pls go support them! for this video I want honor my mom, my family, pho bac cafĂ© and those who continue to tell their story through food, because it’s more than food. đŸČ #tacoma #pho #vietnamese #asianstories

If Google allowed half-stars, I'd give this place a 4.5. Pho Bac Cafe was pretty good, I would say better than your average pho place. The broth was good, but definitely not the best I've had. I did particularly like the meatballs in the combination pho though. I don't know if most places use the same frozen meatballs, but both the texture and flavor were better than every other pho place I've tried meatballs at. I usually avoid meatballs at pho places, but a friend had recommended I try them at Pho Bac Cafe. Not a major minus, but I had asked for no tripe in my combination and got some anyway. Service was also pretty typical for a pho restaurant. That said, if you are in the area and want pho, Pho Bac Cafe isn't a bad choice.

If Google allows half star I would give Half stars ! Recently I went there and then gave another try
For the last few times , the Pho Bac tasted isn’t the same as before. The broth is inconsistency, no Pho flavors, last time try again the broth is so light ( no Pho BáșŻc taste.. adds to much water
) the time before that is too salty
😕 I noticed that since the Lady Owner she wasn’t there as often as She used to be there , they have the new back kitchen’Lady
That’s when I noticed that it Pho is going down
after many years they probably getting tired.. don’t care it’s anymore or about to sales the Restaurants perhaps. ???? I used to like Pho there a lot, but now i so disappointed. No taste, No Flavors
Wouldn’t want to go there anymore. By the way , it’s not just me but when I talked to all of my friends who used to go there
they’re said the same thing as I say
 very sad😉 Definitely no...

I ordered one beef pho and one rice with grilled beef. The pho came out within minutes. However, 10 minutes after my pho was served, the other dish had not come out yet. I asked the waitress where the dish was, but she looked confused. I repeated my question about the other dish, but she looked at me as if she didn't understand. When I asked about the rice and grilled beef, all she said was 'rare beef pho'. I pointed to the sign on the wall, but she only repeated 'rare beef pho' as if that's all she knew. Feeling defeated, I agreed to have one rare beef pho instead, and it came out instantly. I'm a little disappointed because they didn't have the dish we wanted, and there was a lack of English on their part. The pho was okay, nothing special, and almost below average. Will I return? No, because I've been to other...
