Ikageso: great - ikageso is specifically tentacle only calamari. Nice batter, perfect ratio of crispy and crunchy. I mixed the sliced cabbage with the mayo and lemon, made a great quick slaw that paired well with fried food.
Calamari: rings only. Basic. Looked like the frozen pre-breaded kind. Wasn't bad as far as calamari goes but not great.
Okonomiyaki: outside of the pancake was a good ratio of crispy/crunchy. Sizable portion, could use some more meat, such a pork belly. The server did warn it would take 25 minutes and I was okay with that.
Ramen: sub-par. Made to order, including even the broth. Took forever - my husband ordered about right after me and he was served 20 minutes after I got my okonomiyaki, so about 45 minute wait total for ramen. No warning from the server about how long it would take. In fact, it took so long we asked about it to make sure the order was put in and the server told us in annoyance that they were working on it. I mean, you didn't warn us and it took forever, imo we shouldn't have had to ask, they could've came by to let us know. But after we asked, the guy at the bar started making it, so make of that what you will. Broth tasted like shio broth, they served ham instead of char-siu and served it with hard boiled egg instead of soy sauce egg. For something that was made to order, not bad.
Karage/karage don: good ratio of crispy/crunchy. If you get the don, comes with a nice spicy mayo. Could use more garlic/ginger in marinade, like most Japanese spots typically use. Overall good.
Curry omurice: humongous portion - had leftovers for lunch. Ketchup fried rice topped with omelet and typical Japanese curry. Can't really go wrong. Just needed a bit more meat imo. I'm not sure if there was any at all actually.
Skewers: comes with 3 meats; in order of best to least favorite: pork belly, beef, chicken. Pork belly - the char balanced the fatty pork perfectly. Beef was good. Chicken was a dryer cut, char penetrated the chicken too deeply and overwhelmed it.
Lumpia: my husband's coworker got this. Not sure if he got 1 or 2 portions. If 1, is was great value, if 2 or was okay value, but the lumpia itself was pretty good.
Parking: if you get here around 545/6, there's a few spots left. Otherwise I suggest you get here around 7-730, because parking is tight once the restaurant gets in full swing. If you get here about 2 hours after it opens, it gives time for a group of people to finish and leave, opening up some spots.
Bonus:
They need to time the entrees better - there should not be someone finally getting their food after half the group already left. That's annoying and awkward for the people that already got their food. Other then the little bit about the ramen with the server, the service was okay. They were all pretty nice, but operationally could use work to coordinate food timing and...
Read moreI rarely feel satisfied from outside food (restaurants) let alone Japanese restaurants on island but man was the food good! I was a little skeptical after reading the reviews about how salty things were or it being expensive. I feel for me and my partner anyways that it was flavorful and fresh!
The food definitely is expensive but they are in Tumon (plus the cost of everything is going up!) but for the quality of food, the flavor and freshness, it was worth it. I would order here again. My partner got the omurice and said it was very tasty and similar to what he was eating in Japan the last 5 years! I got a California roll (though it was the most expensive Cali roll I’ve had it was also the most fresh, and most delicious Cali roll I’ve ever had on island) the karaage was also very nice! Looking forward to trying other items...
Read moreGreat food, friendly staff, and perfect ambiance! Didn’t get to take a picture of the menu but there’s a large selection of meals. Food choices were a mix between Japanese and Filipino cuisine. We got the Mango hai drink (enough alcohol to help you unwind after a long day), pork sisig, loco moco, standard sushi flight, and aburi salmon roll (this was my favorite). The sushi flight came with scallops, toro, tuna, and salmon. The fish were soft, fresh, and buttery. The staff were attentive to our needs. Wait time for food was around 15-20 minutes which I think is a decent wait time. There’s two counters where you can sit at or if you have a larger group, there’s tables to sit at. Great place for date night, night our with friends, or to have dinner with family. Overall, it was a great experience and we would...
