I feel pretty awful leaving this review as this first one on my account isn't quite positive. However, the disappointment in our cake compelled me to drop a line, and I truly hope Proa improves.
I ordered a red velvet cake for my daughter's birthday as it's her favorite and was quoted $41 for a single layer. I had many good experiences from Proa with their desserts before as different restaurants also sourced their cakes from Proa. This red velvet cake in particular, though, was not good by any stretch. I picked up the cake and went straight to our location so it wasn't subjected to time in the refrigerator for another day prior to consumption.
The cake was extremely dry, not flavorful, and crumbly and not even the icing could save it. I felt embarrassed serving the cake at my daughter's birthday after realizing it was so dry and bland. I was genuinely shocked as Proa was one of my go-to places for desserts for special occasions for years.
I can't stress enough that this review is primarily for the quality of the cake itself. The service I received was otherwise excellent, and the person who assisted me was so friendly. Moreover, the birthday message on the cake was so nicely done. The process from order to pick up was smooth, pleasant, and hassle-free.
Unfortunately, the quality of the cake did not match the quality of the service, and I won't be recommending Proa for special occasion treats further particularly with the price tag of $41 before tip. That amount of money in today's economy for a subpar product is not acceptable. I wish Proa the best with improvement.

Read moreIt seems like the front of house and back of house have very different opinions as to what type of restaurant this is. I was very excited to go to Proa before I moved off island expecting it to be a fancier, high end restaurant (based on it needing reservations and and the prices/options on the menu). My date and I dressed up for dinner and stood at the front of the restaurant for a couple minutes before the hostess finally appeared to seat us. A waiter attempted to sit us but the hostess appeared shortly after he started speaking to us. The other patrons in the restaurant were very loud and obnoxious, we were sitting very close to large parties. The other folks in the restaurant were wearing street clothes like tshirts and board shorts - definitely not clothing you'd wear to a restaurant that requires reservations, although to be fair, the wait staff also was wearing tshirts and jeans. Our server was very busy with the large parties and even when our food came out, it wasn't brought at the same time. Additionally, our appetitizer plate wasn't bussed until after we finished our meal, so we decided to skip dessert and just go home to try and recover our evening.
Recommendations? Have a dress code for patrons (and perhaps nicer uniforms for waiters), soft ambient music to set the tone a little better than...
Read moreFood: I had the short ribs and man they were awesome. Rice was very tasteless and the salad well, was a salad. The cheesecake holy shit, this place has deserts down to the T. They also plate the food extremely well. Let me put this in context, the food this place is serving is easilly $60 and up a plate but. For some reason they’re flying under the radar and it’s closer to $18 a plate, highway robbery for us customers. If you put this place in an upscale hotel, I could see it reaching $100 a plate so don’t tell them lol.
Service: my waiter was kinda weird but maybe he was just getting old. His recommendations however were spot on, he knew what was good. I also looked at everyone else’s plate and nobody had a bad looking plate. It all looks good and professionally plates A+
Atmosphere: more of a dimmer/ romantic lighting just not in an upscale building. But come here for the food.
Lastly: the god damn cheesecake oh my god. It was incredible and probably the best cheesecake I’ve had. I’ve been around the world a few times and I always try cheesecakes and this one is my #1. Better than any I’ve had in Las Vegas, Israel, Bahrain, Japan, Frankfurt, multiple places in Germany, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi, Texas, New York, Florida. And to top it all off it was only $8 a slice. I would’ve easilly paid...
