I came to this place with friends around 5:18 PM. Walked inside and saw the sign that said to seat ourselves, read the menu, and then place an order at the register. We placed our order at 5:26 PM. We were all given cups for our drinks. We got to decide what to drink and bring it back. By 5:36 PM we had our appetizers show up first. Then about 5:44 the pizzas were ready. We finished by 5:58 PM. We came in before everyone else showed up. This place fills up fast! The view is awesome and unconcealed. Now onto the food.
They do not use frozen bread. They make the bread fresh every day. The bread is not chewy at all. It is definitely oven baked and never burnt. Their cooks know how to bake a pie.
I tried several different pizzas from two classics and one specialty: meat lovers, pepperoni, and the blueberry pizza.
I have to say the classics didn't miss a single thing so for the rest of this review it's all on the blueberry pizza: The blueberry, blue cheese, bacon, red onion, and basil pizza drizzled with balsamic is a war. A battle of bitter, sour, ethereal, and mildly sweet happening on your tongue. The blue cheese taste is accented by the basil leaves. But the blueberries mask that under taste, that of which bleu cheese is known for. If you like eating Bleu cheese ala carte you will love this pizza. The taste just needs something a little bit more sweet to help offset the uneasiness of the pizza. It's definitely a pizza for someone looking for an adventurous taste. This pizza is hard to conquer if you don't like Bleu cheese. I hate making a suggestion to a recipe but I think balsamic glaze would help make this pizza taste much better. But then it would become a contender against the barbeque chicken pizza they have.
But that's just me. Otherwise this place checks off a lot of marks. I just can't say much about the back house cleanliness because I can't go back there. But you can watch them make everything if...
Read moreIn August 2022, my wife and I were staying at the Huron House Bed and Breakfast in Oscoda. We saw the Tawas Bay Pizza Company sign as we drove through town on our way to the bed and breakfast. The building caught our attention because it had a fresh, clean, modern look. We enjoy brick oven pizza so we visited the website, read some reviews, and decided to stop in for lunch at some point during our stay.
A list of the various types of pizzas you can choose from is posted on a wall inside the restaurant; the variety is rather impressive. We settled on our choice and placed our order. The employees were very welcoming and polite. After taking our order the cashier told us to take a seat inside or outside and someone would deliver our pizza shortly.
There are several tables and chairs outside under the overhang, and several picnic tables on the front lawn. The weather was perfect that day so we sat outside to take advantage of the beautiful view of Tawas Bay directly across the street.
Before our food arrived I went to the restroom to wash my hands. The inside of the restaurant, including the bathroom, was clean and tidy. My wife also washed her hands and when she returned she commented about the cleanliness of the women's restroom.
It seemed like it had only been seven or eight minutes before an employee walked out with our order. He was polite and attentive and asked if there was anything else we wanted before he walked away. During the time we were sitting there he came back two more times. He checked with all of the patrons to see how they were enjoying their food, asked if there was anything they needed, and removed empty trays and plates when people were finished with their meals.
The pizza was excellent and so was the service. We plan to return to the Tawas Bay Pizza Company the next time we are...
