Me and my mom came in to eat for dinner tonight and it will be the last time we ever come to this location. We have been here in the past, and last time was pretty good. When we came in today however, we had such a bad experience that we almost left.
Today was particularly packed since when we walked in, there was people sitting near the front window waiting to be seated. We signed in and sat and waited until a girl came and asked us if we could sit near the second part of the revolving sushi since the other part where the sushi chefs were was full. We thought about leaving, but instead stayed and settled for the second area. Apparently they hired some new staff and the girl talked about how they hired some new kids who needed to leave early so our station will be closing soon and therefore we wouldn’t get the experience of the revolving sushi and instead had to order from the menu.
We made our intentions clear to our waitress that we wanted to sit in the first revolving area as we saw seats becoming available
We grabbed some soggy, old sushi from what was left from the revolving belt and waited until she came back with a menu for us to check out so she could grab them from the sushi chefs themselves. It takes 10-25 minutes for a custom order, so we just waited while the sushi slowly started going away until it was only drinks and pudding on the sushi line.
All the sushi was soggy, rushed, and the deep fryer for deep fried parts of sushi had a nasty taste. The soy sauce is also super salty.
At that point we regretted not waiting and asked the girl if we can sit back at the first part where everyone else is so we can have fresh sushi, and our waitress said how the female manager said “No, because you chose to sit down on this side so now you have to stay.” She relayed to us what the female manager said which was “She said she’s not going to wait on you over there because you chose to sit here.” We were like.. okay.. rude? So then we asked to speak to “her” but instead the bald male manager came to us and told us if we wanted to move we need to take our plates ourselves and we can’t do this again. That’s exactly what he said. My mom assured him, “We understand, but I hope you understand that we could’ve left because you couldn’t seat us where we wanted to be seated”. He kept saying something under his breath and we just decided to stay.
After all that, we began to get our orders, and all of our rolls were falling apart. None of them were rolled tight and were super messy. Then the girl showed us a different menu with stuff from the kitchen, and I decided to get Udon. When the udon arrived 10 minutes later, It was not savory, it had no flavor, no seasoning, and the broth was weak.
The highlight of my experience was my Volcano Roll that took 25 minutes for 4 small pieces of a roll that was like 6 inches long. Despite being called Volcano, it was very tiny, very cold, and it was falling apart.
All in all, clearly this was a very bad night. My advice to management would be that if a customer is requesting to have their seat moved to have a better experience, it should not be met with rude...
Read moreWe went in while it was very busy, so I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt and excuse the couple of times that we could not get their attention, or that they were slow. This place looked very popular, so if you don't like waiting and you want prompt service, go in at a less busy time. Now for the good stuff: I love sushi, and I think that conveyor-belt style is so fun! Now, I also love a traditional, formal ambiance, but I haven't had conveyed sushi for nearly a year, somewhere else, so I was really excited to find Teharu. It seemed that at least 90% of the tables were next to the conveyor, which I appreciated--I didn't want to sit away from the belt! I don't know if this place even has a menu, and we had so much fun grabbing plates that we didn't ask. On the belt, they have signs to let you know what is what-- though many of them could use replacing. Most items are listed by Japanese name (ebi, tamago, etc.), but you can ask what they are if you need to. The plates are colored to indicate price (though I had a hard time with the sign because it was blurry/small), and they ranged from $1-2 (which I liked because the one at Arrowhead goes from $1-4, some even $5 if they're fancy). We were able to ask for a couple things that weren't on the belt-- I received fresh salmon nigiri that way! You can also order a bowl of rice or soup, which aren't on the belt. Each plate on the belt has a lid to protect it. They had cucumber salad, seaweed salad, gyoza, edamame in the pods(which I would rather have fresh and hot, with sea salt, but the belt one was cold), lost of four-piece special rolls (including rainbow and spicy tuna), and various nigiri. We also found stuffed jalapeño tempura and other creations. There are a couple desserts on the belt. I would say that if you see a drink on the belt, ask for a cold one straight from the fridge-- unless you like warm ramune. They have an excelled iced green tea, but I don't think they have a soda fountain, because the pop came in a bottle with a glass of ice. We ended up with a pretty good stack of plates, but the price was lower than we thought it would be! I would definitely come here again, but at a slower time, and next time I want to see if they have a menu with things that you can order that aren't on the belt, maybe longer specialty rolls, even, etc. Oh, and when we walked in, there were tons of Asian diners, so to me that was a good sign. I don't know that this place is very kid-friendly if your kids don't like sushi, so you might want to ask before you take a table, or call ahead. Overall, I'm glad I went, we had fun, and the...
Read moreVery cool and different sushi experience. I had just recently heard of revolving sushi from a friend, and I was in the neighborhood searching for a quick, inexpensive, and somewhat healthy dinner. While driving around my friend saw "sushi" and we decided to check this place out.
I had never been to a place like this so I was pretty much in awe the entire time. I just thought it was such a cool, fun concept for eating. We waited maybe a couple minutes before being seated at the bar like area. The seating was a little crowded sitting next to a larger man but not too uncomfortable. The atmosphere was fun, and actually pretty quiet for how many people were there. I assume everyone was busy stuffing their face like I was.
There were plenty of staple sushi dishes to choose from, very cheap from $1 to $2.50. I tried at least 4 different rolls and was stuffed when we were ready to leave. They had random desserts (cheesecake, cream puffs, etc) that I didn't get to try as I'm trying to eat healthier. They also had these cool looking "carbonated" Japanese beverages which I will have to try next time as well. All of the sushi that I ate was pretty fresh, tasty, and of course I didn't have to wait for it to be prepared! It is basically fast food sushi. This is not a "fancy, date-night sushi restaurant" with a waitress catering to your every need, but our drinks were full along with our bellies.
Fun place to eat sushi, try out some new things,...
