As far as dive bars go this is an ok place. I have gone here for 20 years for wings mostly. The drinks are decent and the prices are ok but if you take advantage if the daily deals it's a good value. The food is good, tho just typical fried bar stuff mostly but good portions. The place in my experience is so so for atmosphere and cleanliness sometimes its great sometimes is really not especially if their busy. Pool tables are decent and the small amount of arcade games/bar games are ok. I have experienced some rowdy folks there in regard to football fans mostly but generally its lots of what seem like regulars. I like this place for what it is but it does have its drawbacks for sure. The men's room is rough, lots of paint covering up who knows what and the service has been hit or miss. I have experienced what seems like under staffing as well as underperformance here but I have had great service as well it depends heavily on time and who's working some really are doing there best given what they have to work with some not so much. There is a clear bias if you are a regular or tip well such is the case most places but here it can be the difference between good and bad experiences also knowing when they are slow and the personalities of the bar tenders helps you gauge expectations as well as how to get good service so I can see how first timers may get a bad impression and more seasoned patrons have a better time. I can't say there aren't nicer places around but this is a neighborhood hole in the wall so if you're expecting a lot from here you will find something to be desired. I dont think I would take a date here or kids (I believe its no minors after 9 pm) during football or later evening when ppl are partying it up but I surely will come here with friends or for lunch it's a place that can be enjoyed under the proper circumstances...
Read moreFirst let me start by saying that the owner should seriously consider getting rid of the bartender who was throwing back shots with the regular barfly's. My husband and I were visiting from the East Coast and I must admit I have never had an experience like this. One of the regular barfly's, "Deb", immediately started making inappropriate remarks towards my husband after we sat down. My husband went to the restroom and while he was in there the bartender finally came over. The bartender, just like "Deb ", started making inappropriate comments about my lips. Not Cool. I don't know what kind of hustle they're running in there, but not everyone is down for that sort of activity. I told my husband we should leave as soon as we get our order. We were trying to pay the bartender and I understand he was working alone. What I didn't understand was how he had time to throw back a couple of shots amd made us wait 20 minutes to pay. This is a place strictly for the Barfly regulars, "Deb", to hangout, not those visiting from out of town. This place gives Tempe a bad rep. I grew up in Tempe and I've never had this experience. I just wanted to show my husband during his first visit how cool the local bars and...
Read moreDoesn't even deserve one star! We have been to the Woodshed in Mesa a few times and really liked everything about it. We decided to try the one in Tempe, WHAT A BIG MISTAKE! We waited over 20 minutes, and not one lazy server ever greeted us. 20 minutes! They could have cared less. I had a family of 5 ready to eat. Apparently money at this location is of no concern. I really hope these are different owners at the two locations, the owner should be embarrassed by their level of service at this location. Not asking for a lot, just someone to say hi, some one to take our order, and some good food. We eventually got up and left and went to the other location in Mesa where we were promptly greeted, order taken, and great food was served. We ordered a bunch of food, spent quite a bit, and left a nice tip for the server for her great service at WOODSHED 2. Don't waste your time at this...
