ââââNON INTERNATIONALS BEWAREâââIâm very disappointed that you canât leave a 0 and that I even have to give them a single star. My family and I went here for motherâs day as a treat to my mother and grandmother we called and made a reservation for 12:30 and we were anticipating the experience talking it up on the way there due to itâs good reviews. Now I cannot tell you who writes these reviews because they do not match the service whatsoever must be their friends. As we arrived my family politely waited at the front to be seated then a family came in behind us the first ding was that they went to the people that were obviously behind us first then came to us only after the family said we were there first when the man had seen us there while giving another table water. We were seated and wrote it off as mixups happen as the time we got our menus and asked for water, we then waited a longer than usual amount of time for our water this striked me as odd seeing it was the second out of place thing. We waited even longer to get our order taken my grandmother asked for her eggs benedict a certain way and the man made a weird face at her and when she asked if that was okay he said nothing and took the next order once that was done we waited till 1:30 to get our food which wasnât the way we had asked for it, our reservation was at 12:30. The small business wasnât packed it was about a quarter full then a international family came in about 45 minuets behind us and they were seated with their order taken water given and food to them in about 30 minutes. At this point I was agitated, I looked around to see every table but us had chips and salsa...odd. My mother proceeded to ask for the chips and salsa with âthat looks very good may we get someâ the man once again made a face. We finshed our food at 1:50 and it was very obvious we were all done our plates were pushed forward, empty, with our silverware on them, and napkins up. We waited to get our check until 2:20...once again odd. My mother then asked for the check directly, we waited another 10 minutes before my mother got up and went to them at 2:30. We had been there for 2 hours and the international family had been in and out no problems the manager even stopping to ask them how their food was. We got out check and the man made another rude face giving it to us my mother was obviously fed up and went to confront them in private. When confronted the man said verbatim âWhat do you want me to do work for you like a slaveâ. No one had made this impression at all in fact my family was very polite as we were excited to be there. They did nothing to the price to make up for their actions but they brought us two pieces of cake...for a 6 person table. We paid our tab and left at 2:45. This was easily the worst dining experience of my life, iâve never been treated as less than a guest let alone a customer. The food wasnât even that good, any other day than motherâs day I wouldnât have waited a hour to be served. Safe to say they ruined my familyâs...
Read moreThis is a great place and worth your time and dollar. The service and food were lovely, however the atmosphere was a little confusing.
This restaurant has a difficult niche to fill. "Authentic Mexican" is not a label commonly understood in the land of Tex-Mex. The atmosphere and menu however do an excellent job of letting you know that Caffe Di Fiore is NOT Tex-Mex. Classy glassware surrounded by adobe themed walls and impressionist artwork with soft Spanish crooning in the background gives Caffe Di Fiore a very pleasant vibe. You feel like you're in for a classy cultural experience.
There's also a very friendly and casual air to the restaurant that oddly clashes with the dim yet fancy interior. I don't envy the new owners having to figure out how to make their decidedly not Tex-Mex restaurant both fancy and cultured but also casual and welcoming.
I think my meal exemplified this odd contrast. I ordered a plate of shrimp street tacos, served alongside a scoop of rice. The food was delicious and well prepared but...well they're street tacos. Not really the epitome of "fancy". (I think of other very similar tacos served wrapped up in paper trays for a quick eat-and-go).
I was disappointed that there was no combination plate for the tacos. I was only able to try the shrimp. In addition, while I loved my meal, I left hungry. (My server had offered chips and salsa, but I assumed, perhaps wrongly, that it was an additional charge)
My one practical suggestion would be to add a menu option for a mixed taco plate, a little more expensive, but with 6 tacos instead of 4 with 3 types of your choice. This could help satisfy both curious and broad pallets alike.
Regardless, I will be back to sample more and to see how Caffe Di Fiore carves out it's niche. I hope it is able to lean into the friendly and casual while still distinguishing itself from the myriad of typical Tex-Mex joints that...
Read moreIf I could write a zero star review I would.! My experience was horrible. Not to mention, staff watched an elderly man in a walker struggle to get out of the door, had to get out of the booth by the door and help the Gentlemen out. I used to be a regular at this restaurant until they got bought out by new ownership after being bought out by new ownership some menu items have changed like the green enchiladas they are spicier now. The atmosphere and the customer service is different. Portions got smaller prices stayed the same! But today in particular was the one that really upset me I ordered DoorDash and portion came smaller, was told that the tres leches cake was not available On the app, the DoorDash driver asked if he could buy it for me and was told it was not available. I called over 10 times to speak to someone at the store with no response call a few hours later still no response. I get off work 2 1/2 hours later and physically went into the store and was greeted with the most horrible service and attitude. When I asked if there phones were working, nobody knew anything. All I know is that I saw them go to the office. Talk to somebody about it and never got back to me.I ordered my Tres leches cake that was not available with mole enchiladas. There is literally no difference between the green and mole Enchiladas, but tell me why the DoorDash portion was smaller, and the togo order portion was bigger no to mention they charge you $.50 per to go container. But to top it off, they used to have the best tres leches cake in Houston and today it was the most horrible thing Iâve had H-E-B makes it better one It was not sweet the cake at the bottom was hard and felt like rubber could barely...
