Update as of 05-22-20: They do not wear masks for curbside or take out. It's pretty disappointing because they have vegan food as well as a vegan family meal deal that's pretty good. And the fact that they have Follow Your Heart cheese is a slam dunk.
Also, the wait was just as disappointing. I ordered over the phone from Simi, took 30 minutes to drive out to TO and arrived when they told me it would be ready. When I got there, I had to wait an additional 16 minutes while the pizza finished cooking, however, it had been sitting on top of the oven the entire time.
Food tastes good but no masks and long in-restaurant wait times aren't encouraging me to eat here while COVID19 is going on.
Also, after this visit, it makes the second time we've gone there and someone from our family has gotten sick afterwards. We don't plan to return. Went here for the vegan options. We ordered the vegan lasagna, vegan side salad, vegan rolls, beyond burger, mini vegan pizzas and vegan desserts (which are actually from Karma Bakery in Westlake).
I loved that they had Follow Your Heart cheese. They carry Daiya but I'm not a fan of it so it was nice they had two options.
The kids had the mini pizzas because they didn't have any official vegan kids meal options.
It was really nice that they had vegan rolls because bread and butter at dinner is a treat I've missed since going vegan.
However, even after we asked for vegan rolls, regular ones and butter were brought to us--leading us to wonder if they were vegan or not.
When the food came out it was really hard to tell if the cheese and meat was vegan. It tasted pretty realistic, which always has me wondering.
This was our first time at the Thousand Oaks location. The atmosphere is really nice, but I do miss the twinkly lights and intimate booths from the valley location. However, the booth we sat in was still very comfortable, large, and had high backs so our kids didn't bother the people behind us. The dark wood and stone colors are really cool and the place was very clean.
They didn't have alcohol yet but said they will soon.
We got there at 4:20 on a Sunday for dinner and sat no problem. But when we left at 6 it was packed.
Our server was quick and respectful to all of our requests for vegan food, but our order for no cheese on a pizza did get mixed up. They apologized and said they'd replace it.
It was a nice experience, but we felt there was more grease than we are used to on a plant based diet. It's a lot of substitutes, so if you're used to that,...
Read moreHow good is this place? Well, I grew up in the Canoga Park/ Woodland Hills area for about a 3rd of my life, and had gone to their Woodland Hills location often. I always, always ordered the same thing pizza and and antipasto salad with the delicious Italian dressing! Since my teenage years into adulthood, there was one thing you can count on, was that the flavors would be consistent no matter who made the pizza or salad.
I moved to Riverside, CA. I used to drive. box truck for a living and have eaten at many Italian places from LA to OC and the IE... and you know what? No one makes an antipasto salad like Pizza Cookery!!! No ONE.
When I went back to visit my mom in 2022, I was devastated to learn the Woodland Hills location closed. However, I was happy to hear they relocated to Thousand Oaks.
For some time, I had bragged to my wife how amazing this place was. So finally when we had the chance to eat at the Cookery I was hoping I didn't over hype the joint. To mine and my wife's delight, they did not disappoint. The salad was like home and the pizza grease was ever present.
I know there are a lot of pizza places and Italian restaurants in CA, but man... when you find that gem? Everything else just makes you sad. The service, the food, the familiarity and consistency are why I gave this place a full 5 STARS!
(Note - The pizza is greasy sure, but you could always dab it off or opt for...
Read moreThe garlic rolls will blow your mind. I've come to this place a number of times and have never had a bad meal. The rolls are great and the pizza is just as good. No, it's not health food so get ready for it to be greasy and fatty. No you won't be losing weight if you visit this place. The food is great and you'll get plenty of it.
The place has a friendly casual vibe to it. Its been around for years and I suspect it's family own so don't expect it to be luxurious. Service is good but as in any place once it gets busy you'll have to wait for your food and staff to help you.
The one time I was disappointed was due to a waitress that kept on pushing me to order more food than I wanted. I'm sure she just wanted to increase her tip, we all need to pay our bills, but it bothered me. It happened once and it was awhile back. The good food and the good service after that more than made up for it.
The place is relatively small given the number of tables so it's a tight squeeze. I use a wheelchair but I've been able to move around without much trouble and it does not keep me from returning
The food is top notch and the service is good. If you have a craving for good pizza this is the place to visit. I recommend it.
The prices aren't cheap but spending a few bux every once in a while here...
