I stopped at the Burgerville in Tigard last night, thinking I was in for a treat. Burgerville was always a special fast food place for me in my earlier years, hearkens back to the days of the classic 1950s burger joints.
Unfortunately, Burgerville has changed their image and menu, and not for the better.
We ordered 2 cheeseburgers, a large fry, and a Pepper Bacon cheeseburger "meal". My wife noted that she wasn't asked what she wanted to drink.
We got to the window to pay, and stated that we weren't asked what we wanted to drink. The cashier, I'll refer to him or her as "Caitlyn", stated that they don't "offer meals" and "everything on their menu is ala carte".
I was first taken aback that "Caitlyn" was sporting a pony tail, glasses, lipstick, 5 o' clock shadow, and a training bra. NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT. I don't get up to Portland a lot, and I'm not used to that, but that's OK.
When did Burgerville become fine dining? It's fast food, not Gordon Ramsay Steak.
I also noticed a sign stating that they are hiring, starting at $11 an hour.
Perhaps that is the problem here!
Again, it's fast food. There's no Bachelor Degree requirements. It's not cancer research, real estate developments, or hedge fund management.
I understand that they still offer Coke products, but not Dr. Pepper. I find that appalling.
These other fast food places offer meals:
McDonald's Taco Bell Carl's Jr. Arby's Wendy's Subway Jack in the Box Taco Time Del Taco Burger King
I can go on and on. Granted, by not offering "meals", I think that Burgerville is placing themselves out of the same category as the competition, which is unique, but...again...it's fast food.
It's not the end of the world that one must order a drink separately, but I think it's inconvenient and unusual. I'm a well fed American, and I have my preferences.
The food itself was just OK. One cheeseburger was nearly perfect, but the other had absolutely too much ketchup, and I could barely taste the "special sauce". The Pepper Bacon cheeseburger was tasty, but not enough to warrant another visit. I found the fries substandard.
In conclusion, Burgerville has changed for the worse, and they have moved far away from the experience I cherished in earlier years. I won't return, and that's a shame.
*Google, by altering or removing this review, you agree to pay me $125,000 in $20 bills, which will be deposited in a small swimming pool in a Holiday Inn Express, for me to swim in, while Prince is played on a Bose stereo system. If you think I'm kidding, wait for...
Read moreA Disappointing and Frustrating Experience I am a new resident to this neighborhood and was excited to have a Burgerville so close to my home. Unfortunately, my experiences here have been consistently disappointing, and it’s become clear that there are significant issues with order accuracy and customer service at this location. In the five times I have visited, the orders have been incorrect every time. On two separate occasions, I was missing items from my order entirely. Beyond missing food, there are major quality control issues. I have repeatedly asked for sauce to be left off my burger, only to have it scraped off, leaving the bun and meat soaked in sauce and relish. When I ask for both ketchup and mustard, I am given only one or the other, and one time, the burger had no condiments at all. This morning's experience was the most frustrating of all, leaving me feeling disrespected and that my day had been ruined. The problems started in the drive-thru when I noticed my soda was missing from the order. I pulled around as instructed, and an employee named Alex argued that I had not ordered it. He came out with a receipt that I did not have, insisting that the coke was not on the bill. After a fruitless argument, I went inside and purchased one myself. Upon returning home, my friend discovered his hash brown was also missing. When I called to address this, Alex again insisted we hadn't ordered it. This gaslighting, combined with the earlier argument, was incredibly frustrating. I was also told that Burgerville does not offer a veteran's discount, directly contradicting my experience with another employee, Stephon, who gave me one just the night before. This inconsistency in policy is baffling. My cold, ruined breakfast cost over $45, and the whole experience left me with a stomach ache and a lost appetite. This repeated lack of professionalism, accuracy, and basic customer respect is unacceptable. I will not be returning to this Burgerville location, and I will be taking my business to places where I can get what I ordered without an embarrassing argument. Like BurgeKing where at least I always have...
Read moreI like burgerville because it and In-N-Out Burger are the only two places I'm aware of that know the source of their beef. Both of these places make sure that they're getting good quality. So in an error when you literally have to refer to McDonald's and Burger King as mystery meat, this is good news.
Unfortunately over the last few years burgerville has attempted to cut costs and that has led to inferior products. They've changed the bread. They've changed the allergy profile of some foods. They've changed the fries. Leaving us with a vastly reduced interest in going there because if I don't like the bun or the fries, I'm not going to buy the burger even if the meat is better.
This particular burgerville has a small footprint parking lot which makes parking risky because you will get trapped by the drive-thru line and the drive-thru line can be quite slow. It's typical but still it can be frustrating. Moreover when it comes to paying it's become really awkward now because they hand you the card reader with the here just go press a button here and on it is hey do you want to tip for the fast food. And I have a problem with tipping for fast food.
There's a difference between a restaurant experience where you tip because of the ongoing interactive service. For fast food I think they should just price it at what they want so that the employees get a good and fair wage. But forcing this terribly awkward moment of here you can either tip or here's a way to press for zero tip just makes me uncomfortable and I don't want to ever go back and deal with my being put on the spot like that. PAY YOUR FAST FOOD FOLKS A GOOD WAGE SO THAT THEY'RE HAPPY RATHER THAN PUSH IT ON TO ME IN SOME AWKWARD PAYMENT MOMENT.
Hence that is why all my ratings are three star. Used to be better, but not anymore. But if you want a clean burger and everything else is fine for you then this would be your five-star experience. As...
