We waited a bit after this restaurant opened to let them work the kinks out before trying it. People that go right away and expect everything to be perfect are ridiculous. We came in for dinner on a Wednesday about 6:00. The parking lot looked pretty full so we expected a bit of a wait. NOPE! Walked in to an empty waiting area, greeted quickly, asked about our drink choice, and seated within 2 minutes. The layout of the hot and cold food bar was pretty large and conveniently located in the center of all of the seating areas. The full parking lot was not apparent inside, there is a lot of well organized seating, with several little room areas dividing up the overall restaurant. I decided to start with the sushi bar. I am not a huge fan of premade sushi and have high expectations of fresh, non fishy smelling or tasting fish, especially when consuming it raw. I took one of each piece of sushi,(not the vegetable roll or cream cheese roll, pretty hard to mess those up and not may fav). All were good and I really enjoyed getting to try the eel roll without having to commit to an entire roll by myself (hubs won't go near those). The volcano roll was really good considering it was chilled and it is typically served hot. I had barely finished with the last piece and a server came by to whisk my dirty plate off the table. The servers all appeared to be very quick on cleaning up the used plates. I then decided to check out the rest of the bar scene. Salad bar with the usual options, all appearing very fresh and well presented. The bar contained some standard hot bar fare, pizza, soups, and a good number of Asian options. The pork pot stickers were exceptionally good, be sure to get some of the chili sauce. We finished up our meal with desert which hubs made a sampler type of plate for the two of us. The desert options were different types of cake, fruit, ice cream cups, and pudding. A nice finish to a pretty decent meal. For a buffet restaurant, the staff appeared to be constantly cleaning and restocking the food, which was nice to see. This is one that we will return to...
Read moreBE CAREFUL with your bill, pay close attention to avoid double tipping !!! I’m sure I’m not alone in this—has anyone else noticed how common it’s becoming for Chow’s Country buffet restaurant to sneak in an automatic tip without telling you? It’s beyond frustrating, and it honestly feels very deceptive. Far too often, people end up unknowingly tipping double, and the worst part is that the waitress doesn’t even bother to inform us, even though she knows it’s happening far too often and that it’s wrong.
There really should be a law requiring businesses to make it clear when a tip is already included. I’m all for tipping well when it’s deserved, but I also believe in transparency. Customers shouldn’t have to comb through their receipts just to avoid being taken advantage of. If you’re already paying a service charge, you deserve to know before you end up tipping twice.
Business that keeps this hidden need to be held accountable. At the very least, it should be standard practice to clearly inform customers upfront or posted signs so we can make an informed decision.
Later I realized that I made a mistake on double tipping. I called in the Chow’s Country Buffet restaurant speaking to Tom as a manager explaining the situation. He appeared understanding the mistakenly double tipping situation, he promptly credited it back as...
