Downtown Diner 605 S. Hopkins Ave., Titusville, FL 32796

4 Stars

The comedian David Brenner once said that “If three out of four times you walk out of your house, you get hit on the head with a bucket of poop. You will stop going outside.” This is how I feel when I see a breakfast/lunch diner pop up as my next place to review. Most of the time, it's the least common denominator ingredients with a five-thumbed line cook coming off a three-day meth binge. Downtown Diner is the exception.

Brissa was my server for this encounter, and she was absolutely outstanding, garnering a 50% tip. I don't write this because she slipped me some Danegeld to do so; I sincerely mean it. I asked Brissa the Admirable for a Smoked Sausage and Egg Platter with sides of home fries and a biscuit, as well as an order of the Lobster Roll with some fries and a lone Pancake.

If you turn your ocular apparatus to the pictures, you will see how delicious everything looks. The enticing aromas arising from the various victuals assured me it was going to be as good as it looked. I grabbed my utensils of provisional annihilation, cut off a chunk of the Smoked Sausage, and commenced to chow down. Not only was this Smoked Sausage huge (write your own joke), but the flavors emanating forth with were outstanding. This sausage was complex, delightful and absolutely cooked to perfection. The home fries are hand-cut and cooked to order. These are some of, if not the best, I've ever had the pleasure of scarfing down. The over-medium eggs were done with the same aplomb as the sausage, and don't even get me started on the made-in-house biscuit! It goes without saying that everyone's Grandma is jealous of these biscuits. Look at the size of that thang!

Regretfully placing my silverware down, I forced my appetite toward the Lobster Roll. As with all bread-based items, it begins with the base. This roll was fresh, warm, crunchy and chewy as it is written. The Lobster was hand-cut, succulent, sweet, tender and a delight on the palate. The freshly sliced tomato and crisp, green lettuce were perfect accompaniments to this gastronomical giant of a sandwich. The side of fries, however, was a huge letdown. They were your typical frozen food service junk. They were cooked correctly, they just had the flavor of fried cardboard. The pancake, like the biscuit, is made from scratch sans box mix, and Holy Aunt Jemima, can you tell! This flapjack was huge, fluffy, tasty and bursting with flavor. It is obvious that someone here cares about what's being served. From the giant smoked sausage to the fresh-cut lobster, hand-cut home fries, and freshly made biscuits and griddle cakes, you can't miss. The only flaw here is those dastardly, flavorless fries. If you are going to bring it on 99 out of 100 items, make that last effort!

Visit Date & Time: Sunday, Jan 17th 11:15am My husband and I decided to try Downtown Diner for breakfast. The parking lot was full and being logical people we realized there would be a wait. Generally speaking, we are fine when there is activity in an establishment..its when it's void of patrons we have more concern. Quite surprisingly, the wait was minimal, approx 10min. We were sat at a booth that the server very graciously made sure she wiped down as we sat. Don't panic people, it wasn't gross, they just wanted to make sure it was wiped down well. The kind yet efficient server asked our drink order and returned quickly with exactly as we ordered. Being two people, it isn't hard to remember but you'd be surprised how much we have to repeat ourselves at other places. Coffee came to the booth in a refreshingly larger than average cup and hot. Yes, I said they served hot coffee. Also, refreshing. Coffemate original creamer, looked like they may have had flavored ones as well. Ordered chocolate chip pancakes and it came with eggs, bread and meat side. Potion sizes are very fair. Food was warm, cheese was melted in eggs as ordered. Now the pancakes, they are the only pancakes I've ever received out that make them with the choclate chips in the cakes. SUCCESS! My hub had the Spinard omelet with French toast. The butter melted on the French toast and hub said its some of the best he has had. Yes my hub said cooking other than mine was good, no the best and I'm not offended. Total bill with 20% tip was $28.03. 4 star review, we...

Went for breakfast with my 86 year old mother. We waited in line a long time, which we expected. Then I notice that people had left and tables were promptly cleared but the young girl ignored the empty tables as we stood there. She kept waiting on those checking out and on to-go orders. A take-out order was messed up so she went to deal with that leaving my mother and my husband and I and a group in front of us standing. Finally more staff came over to help out and one said “should I seat some people?” I said ( in a nice tone) “yes, that would be nice.” The girl turned to me and said “I’m doing the best I can, we’re busy.” I said ( again, nicely) “yes, I understand but maybe more balance between the check-out & take-outs and the seating folks.” At which points she storms off to the owner and the other woman seats us. At this point Mom is moving very slow. Then the owner comes over to our table and loudly rants to me about how rudely I treated his daughter, that he runs the business to give his kids a place to work and I can leave for all he cares. I tried to explain and he kept ranting so we left. Never been treated so poorly in my life. My mother was so upset. Never will return. Not oriented to the customer, a place for sensitive children to work without getting canned for ineptitude! We were the only ones(including staff) wearing masks which may have...

Fantastic! Our favorite place for breakfast hands down! We continue to come back here & bring visitors from out of town due to the quick & friendly service. The cooks are always spot on with flavor and will get your orders out hot & fast. We decided to visit our favorite breakfast place in Titusville since we just got back into town. My husband was craving their breakfast bowl which has home fries, eggs, sausage (or bacon) , cheese and gravy. But he was disappointed to see it wasn’t on the menu anymore! He asked our server if the kitchen could possibly whip one up. Boy, was he thrilled when she came back with a “yes”! I ordered a veggie egg white omelette with rye toast & a side of turkey sausage. The food came out quickly and cooked to perfection (as always). We had to get to go boxes as there was just too much food!! Their prices are amazing considering the amount of food and the quality you get every time. Seriously, if you haven’t been you really need to go! And if you have been, you already know how amazing this place is!!
