Keep in mind that there is the veterans rotunda and flag memorial but, as you walk in and go to the left towards the bathrooms Mercury 7 monument and please don't climb on it as much as you like to take your pictures on the ground it's been there a long time there are only two of these structures one on the cape and one here. now go over, across the canal to Gemini monument that you cannot miss stand behind the Mercury 7 monument and look towards the Big condo structure. Gemini program is there in the monument is actually a replica sort of of the actual Gemini launch towers you can even put your hands in the molds of many astronauts hands after you visit Gemini you can sit there and watch a launch just like you can over at the veterans Park or you can go back towards the town and walk through the Apollo monuments with JFK and some of the interesting things about the Apollo launches but if you want to see the shuttle memorials look to the north if you're looking at Kennedy bust look to your left to the north and you'll see a massive flag pole underneath that flag pole is the memorials to both the Challenger and Columbia. But please remember people live here so be courteous cuz launches to us are kind of not what they are to you and we move on with our everyday business But as you know we appreciate everyone of y'all. AND FOR GOD'S SAKES DON'T MISS THE SUNRISE AT THE END OF THE DOCK OVER THE CAPE THE BATHROOMS, DUSK TO DAWN. It's okay to go out there after hours the hours you see posted online are really just for the bathrooms Cheers and have...
Read moreMy dad, stepmom, and I were in town looking for a good site for viewing the SpaceX launch, and we were recommended by a local photographer to this nice little gem of a park. Being focused mainly on the launch, I didn't take full advantage of checking out the many historical plaques and monuments dedicated to our country's greatest heroes, which gives me an opportunity to return. Even with a pretty significant crowd, and with local news teams, Veteran's Memorial was a peacefully energetic place of dignity. We saw a few people collecting donations for the park, and were happy to contribute; and it was awesome to see people come together and gather happily in the wake of the recent storm, in order to witness the launch. Veteran's Park offers scenic riverside views, a pier out to a covered observation deck; plenty of relaxing "sit down" spots, and restrooms. The vantage point for Kennedy Space Center is about a mile closer than many of the observation spots to the south. Parking can be a bit of a bear, especially on an event day, but it is free, and may only require a walk of a block or two. On launch days, probably plan to be there about 2 hours early for that prime...
Read moreWe had some time to spare and decided to take a walk around the park since we hadn't been there in a while. It is fenced off by the river view and very unmaintained. It doesn't look like much work has been done to improve it since hurricane Irma so the docks are all in shambles. The landscaping leaves much to be desired as it doesn't appear to have been cleaned up much more than forced to since. It doesn't send a good image of honor for the veterans who have fought for our freedoms and some who have given their lives for it. The bees are building hives in at least one of the signs and one of the water valve casings. Not very safe. We tried to call the number posted on the no trespassing sign to see what they were doing with it and no one other than a receptionist will speak with you. Not a very good way to honor someone...
