What can I say? I’ve been to the Kennedy Space Center and thought that was great. This is amazing!! In combination, they are perfection. If you or your family member is really into NASA or want to be an astronaut, start your tour here. THEN head to Kennedy Space Center. You’ll know what you’re seeing when you’re there if you go to the museum first. They have things I never thought I’d get to see up close. The docent that showed us around became like a friend to us by the end. Smitty worked on Webb and Hubble and he wasn’t the only retired NASA employee there!! We also met someone who worked on the APOLLO missions! I felt like we were meeting celebrities. They truly were amazing and answered all my questions. I’m a teacher and I had MANY. The museum itself is filled with things that I thought Kennedy Space Center would have had. KSC has all the bling and rides, but this one had the human quality and the primary sources/artifacts. I’m not going back to KSC without stopping in here just to show some of my family who didn’t know about this place all the cool stuff and people. Get yourself on a docent led tour and you’ll be in for a treat. I cannot recommend this place more for 8 year old to 99 year old kiddos. If your kid is more about the rides, take them to KSC. If they are an astronaut, take them here first. It’s a hidden gem that needs the attention it deserves. I plan on bringing my students here on a field trip when I can. Space is our future. Students need to see our history with it. If the kind woman at the Titusville visitor center hadn’t pointed us here, I fear we would have missed it. We had just finished our second day at KSC and were about to head home to South Florida. I’m SO glad we...
Read moreAbsolutely fantastic experience. Do not let the somewhat humble exterior keep you from visiting. The admission is not cheap, but it is worth every penny, and they are entirely supported by admission. Even though it is not a giant space on the scale of the Kennedy visitors center or other such museums, it is absolutely chock full of amazing items, artifacts and space program related items.
I am an avid documentary watcher, so I knew a good deal of the information our guide shared, but I still found it very engaging. It is obvious that the folks working here are intensely passionate and well informed. Many of the stories they told were things I have seen in documentaries on the space program, so their information is top class.
After the tour, I spent quite a bit of time looking at all of the fascinating items in their collection from both the US and Soviet space programs. The memorial to fallen astronauts was very moving and as with everything quite well done.
Two comments for visitors. First, because this is an independent museum and the space is relatively small, they do not have any refreshments. Don’t go on an empty stomach - you will leave before you are ready if you are hungry. Second, they have a great deal of items that are not in protected cases and are marked “Do Not Touch” - younger kids may find this challenging, especially because many of the items are models that look like toys. They do have a room specifically for younger kids, but the main exhibits are, in my mind, better suited for kids 7-8 years and up.
Overall a TREMENDOUS collection. Do...
Read moreLoads of space and NASA things to see. There is a gift shop and a children's gift shop with a photo opportunity with an astronaut. The admission is ten dollars or students $5. They also offer other discounts. They have some interesting things here. A little bit of everything. They are a smaller museum but it's jam packed full of goodies. They said they are a nonprofit so most of the things here were donated by NASA. I thought that was really nice. They have a room full of the astronauts that are or were women. Then you can put your hand on the metal hand things and see how you compare. Then you go down the stairs to see the main museum area they have real rocket science equipment and controls. There is a little theater area with lots of things from the 60s. They still work today! The guy cranked them up and started a 3 minute countdown. Finally once it was over the rocket on screen launched. It was pretty cool and educational. Then you could see another room with Some dummies inside. They have an information desk if you have any questions and I'm sure the guy would be very happy to answer them. Very neat stuff to see. All employees are very friendly. I would recommend it. It was not busy at all. Only one or two other parties. Easy to get parking. No dining area inside but restaurants nearby. Bathrooms are available. I think we spent about an hour...
