Leaves more to be desired.
Came in with my mother and aunt visiting from abroad. We ordered two coffees, one tamarindo, two breakfast croissants, empanadas and a guava/cheese pastry.
My parents never had Cuban coffee and were really shocked at hot strong it is. The server was nice enough to give me extra milk for them. Had to go back to get the tamarindo drink. The empanadas were fresh and crispy. Absolutely no complaints. The guava pastry was just so huge! The ratio of jam and cheese to pastry was a little off. Way more of the breading but I enjoyed the flavours regardless.
The real problem was the breakfast croissants. One was supposed to be a bacon and ham with egg and cheese. The other was just egg and cheese. When we got them, they were both just eggs with one being so little egg it could hardly be described as an egg sandwich. When I showed it to the server, she claimed each one was made with two eggs… never mentioning the missing cheese or the missing ham and bacon. We assumed it was because of the language barrier, Spanish being the primary for the establishment…but after pointing out the issues…we were just pointedly ignored.
I wanted to try something new today, but ran into the same old terrible customer service.

It is reminiscent to many of the small mom-and-pops in Miami I frequented growing up. A few tables, drinks either out of the fridge or at the fountain, and you order at the counter and wait for it to come out. It was very much nostalgic for me. The food was as good as I hoped it would be. I had their Pan con Lechon, it comes with very crispy fries, and all of it was super hot and fresh. As a side dish we ordered their croquetas - delicious as well. My wife had their ham and cheese sandwich - way to massive for her to finish, and our friend had their Cuban sandwich which was even bigger than either of our meals. Impressive.
For dessert I had the Tres Leches - I simply couldn't finish it, and my wife and her friend had the guava and guava and cheese pateries - I had a bite as well and talk about nostalgic and tasty.
Can't wait to go back again - I think that might be a good theme for me...
Read moreIn Florida it's hot. If you do business in Florida, your business should have working air conditioning, it's a MUST. This building's AC was horrible when it opened as Quam's (remember that?), and it's never been fixed or updated, so it's ridiculously, uncomfortably hot, and horrible to dine in. When we walked out after eating, it felt like we had walked into air conditioning... Also, the dining area is awkward and just not comfortable. You'll have to park on the street, because their parking lot only had 3-5 parking spaces.
Their Cuban food is good, but very overpriced. $16 for a Cuban Sandwich is about $4-$6+ more than the best Cubanos in Miami or Tampa.
The Empanadas are excellent tasting, although they were light on meat filling, but at $3.50 each, they should be good. The Guava and Cheese Pastry is also fresh and very good.
Overall, If Tree of Life was in a different building with better pricing, with a better experience, this review rating would be much higher.
I wish them the...
