Peking — Restaurant in Toms River

I moved here in July 2013, had Chinese food once since then (not here), and it was horrible, as was the local Indian food (which we threw $75. worth of takeout in the trash). I'm used to the quality that you get in NY I guess. Hungry, and with low expectations (and fingers crossed), I decided to try out this restaurant for delivery, regardless of the one horrible review. There's always a grouch looking to poop the party after all. The several good reviews seem genuine, but I hold restaurant food to a higher standard than most, so I still can't go by them so much. I ordered online, which is great! I was just concerned that I tipped ahead of the delivery. The delivery time stated 7:13 or 7:17 or something like that. I don't remember exactly. I guess I completed the order around 6:30. they arrived early at 7:08, which is more than reasonable. The driver was very friendly and courteous. The food was pretty good. I enjoyed it, filled way up without getting turned off after a while, and felt satisfied. I do however have a pet peeve, which is that restaurants in general do not pay attention to the fact that many, many children have issues and are very picky about their food, and will not eat it if it has "black stuff." Restaurants should always pay attention to not leaving burn marks or odd stuff in food that is generally ordered for children. I suggest that if you are ordering plain LoMein for a picky child, you request it without pieces of garlic and burn marks (they tasted normal though). In summary, I got a good amount of good food for a great price (egg roll, soup, Plain Lo Mein, Moo Shoo Pork, tax & tip for $21.). I will commend the very good Moo Shoo in particular for maintaining a freshness to the vegetables, and not being overly sauced/salted. The LoMein & Soup were good, and the Egg Roll borderline. It's not the Egg Roll that you crave, and is a bit mushy inside. I do believe the reviews that this might be the best in the area, and I'm left with no desire to...

Went here for the first time after reading all the glowing reviews. Maybe I went to a different restaurant than all those people or maybe the reviews were bogus. We got there and the heat was on very low, the staff were running around in winter jackets. The nice part of the dining area was dark and the area where we were seated had no table cloths. We ordered what sounded good on the menu but the food we finally received after a long wait was horrible! The butterfly shrimp was not as described (batter dipped and fried butterflied shrimp with veggies and and a brown sauce). It was so strange looking when we received it I had to ask the waiter if we got the wrong order. It wasn't the wrong order. It was a shapeless mess of egg surrounding shrimp with the tails still on so you got to bite down on the tail scales and shells if you weren't careful. The batter was a tasteless blob of gloppy goo. The other dish ordered, Subgum Wor Bar, had some gooey messy batter dipped seafood in it. Altogether, the meal was a big disappointment, tasteless, almost inedible. When we were finished, the waiter asked if we wanted to take the leftovers home. I said, uh-no. I would not recommend...

Decided to grab a vegetable lo mein, Saturday after Thanksgiving. The place was extremely busy. Much more than they can handle. Unexpectedly. They are a small place, but has began takeout only since Covid. The food is always phenomenal. And although tonight was a nightmare for them, nothing changed. I was more than willing to wait the 45 minutes for my very simple order to be prepared, and so was their regular customers without complaint, knowing just how good the food is and always is prepared. I would say at one point, there was 20 of us standing in the waiting area 30 minutes plus for orders we called in. Mind you, A very unusual circumstance …And they handled it very well… my only thought was, perhaps they could’ve thrown in a egg roll on each order, As a thank you for your patience, but that would’ve been how I handled it and not everybody does the same!!!!
