Mezontle — Restaurant in Torrance

This is a family owned place that serves excellent food for modest prices. They battled their way through a fire that decimated the restaurant, years of trouble rebuilding through the pandemic and the loss of loved ones to Covid. Went over for their re-opening today. I had the carnitas plate. It was passable. What made it good was the flavor. The guacamole on the side left a lot to be desired as it had no seasoning. It was fresh though. The salsa, like the guacamole was too tame. It had no heat and just tasted like fresh tomatoes. The standout was their amazing homemade Chipotle ranch. This is a wonderful spot! Being from Texas, I have been looking for a spot that reminded me of the texmex I grew up on. This certainly fits the bill. Relaxed environment at overly reasonable prices at a high-end presentation and quality. I genuinely can’t pick from the menu when we go because there are so many great picks, although the enchiladas tejanas remain my go to! And, if they have the ceviche on special it is a must get!
