Yamari — Restaurant in Torrance

This was one of my favorite matcha places until I had a terrible service experience. I really hoped the owner would follow through on promises they made. They never did. At first it really seemed they would but they were all words and no actions. Sad. The matcha is top notch but management is absolutely not.

A friend of mine and I were treated in a discriminatory manner here by two employees in the last week of December 2024.

The owner reached out after my first review. We were in contact till about the second week of January 2025. The owner suggested a plan to remedy things the last time he contacted me, two weeks ago, but he never followed through.

This business has serious issues with its management. The management demonstrated it did not take this matter all that seriously. I highly recommend against giving them your business. The quality of their matcha soft serve is very good but the business is not very ethical.

I encourage you to look in the other reviews for mention of an employee that offered poor customer service to at least two other people. If you had a similar experience please write a review.

One of the employees in particular was very rude. He spoke a bare minimum of words in a dismissive tone and never attempted to make the situation better. He never greeted us and never had any polite “thank you” language to offer.

First off, I should preface that I used to sell tea and have studied Urasenke at the beginner level, so I'm probably pickier than most. That being said, this place was a disappointment. This is the fourth time I've come to try this place and I finally found it open. I ordered the premium matcha. At $16, I was expecting koicha, but maybe expecting koicha outside of an ochakai is being naive. It was bitter. Real matcha is shade grown and shouldn't be bitter. I could tell that the base tea had pretty good umami, but since it wasn't prepared correctly, it was chalky. The chasen was filthy. I wouldn't even clean fish with it. Very flat aroma. I was really impressed with Yamari! The matcha flavor here tastes authentic and rich they use Uji matcha from Japan, which gives it a deep earthy taste and pleasant bitterness instead of just being sweet. I expected a typical soft serve, but it was much more refined. The parfait comes with sweet red bean paste, which balances the strong matcha perfectly if you like a little extra sweetness. Even the cone was stylish, black in color, and made the dessert look elegant. The portion size was generous, and everything tasted fresh.
