I really wanted to like this place, as Torrington only has a few options to pick from but unfortunately it wasn't a good experience.
I ordered 2 smoothies, 3 egg and cheese sandwiches, and 1 order of French Toast. Which totaled $56 + tip.
For the smoothies I asked for them to use apple juice, as I prefer smoothies to have some sweetness, but this memo didn't reach the person making my order, so both of my smoothies came out sour on top of having little to no flavor.. It tasted like the frozen fruit most likely wasn't ripe enough, even the banana struggled to revive it.
Then, I ordered 1 egg and cheese sandwich with hash browns and 2 regular egg and cheese sandwiches, along with a side container of Chipotle Mayo. They ended up putting the Chipotle Mayo all over one of the regular egg and cheese sandwiches and then decided to give me some on the side as well. I asked for it on the side because I wasn't sure if I would like it and wanted to try it before putting it all over my sandwich. Well, I didn't end up liking it and because I had already waited almost 30 minutes for everything to be made at this point, I decided to just wrap it up and eat my French Toast instead. The eggs on the sandwiches were fried and felt like crispy rubber.. The only good thing about the sandwiches were the buns. The sandwiches were supposed to all have cheddar cheese. I'm not sure if the cheese got infused into the bun or if they just forget, I don't know.
Then, we have the French Toast which looked more like Toast than French.. I asked prior to ordering the French Toast if it came with REAL Maple Syrup. I wouldn't have bothered if it didn't. I was assured it would come with REAL Maple Syrup. Well, when I got the syrup it was clearly NOT REAL Maple Syrup, so at this point I decided to go back inside to see if I could get some. There was now a different lady at the register. She went back to look but only found the fake stuff. So the first lady wasn't honest with me, because how do you not know what you have for syrup and if it's real maple or not. They put the syrup in a plastic container probably hoping I wouldn't notice the nasty artificial maple flavor laced throughout the high fructose corn syrup. After the second lady confirmed I was given artifical maple, she then stood there with a "well, have a nice day" face, like there was no other options to resolve the issue.. So I went back outside to watch my family finish eating their rubber sandwiches, while sipping on my sour smoothie, while planning to eat my $10- 2 pieces of Toast once I got home where I could atleast enjoy them with some real maple syrup... Well, by the time I got home I wasn't even hungry anymore. Break time was over and it was back to changing diapers and running after my 2 toddlers. The Frenchless Toast got left in my back seat, forgotten about all week, until yesterday when I finally took a trip to the store and found the box along with my partial eaten rubber sandwich.
$56 trip + tip... Not sure what I even tipped for because most of my order was made wrong. They even messed up the order for the couple who was in line infront of me. (They had waited almost 1 hour before finally getting their correct order.) This was on Memorial Day right after the parade. I could see messing up an order here n there, but messing up this much? Either someone just isn't skilled enough to follow basic instructions OR they need to work on having better communication with each other. I was left thinking that I should have just drove the 5 minutes back home and made everything myself in 10 minutes for way cheaper. The only thing that tasted good...
Read moreI'll give you three stars because I like small business but I feel the need to comment on the way I witnessed the owner treat a customer today. My family and I overheard one of your employee ask a gentleman if he had been waiting or if he already ordered. He said he had been waiting for like 20 mins with the slightest tone of impatience in his voice. The owner then proceeded to jump in yelling "yeah well it usually takes 45 and someone called out!" "I don't like your tone" "You rolled your eyes at me and I just can't take it!" "you don't need to eat here!" It was absurd and cringe worthy. He said that's fine I'll take a refund. He was not aggressive with you whatsoever and you acted like you were being attacked. We listened around the corner while we waited for our food in disbelief. We joked that we shouldn't look you in the eyes or risk being told "no soup for you!" After he left we overheard you talking about him again saying something along the lines of "I don't like the way he talked to my staff". It was over and done with, the rest of the customers don't want to head it. I am positive you lost him as a customer, which you clearly didn't care about. But you should be more aware of the other customers in your shop who overheard the way you treated one customer and understand that not maybe not everyone will take your side. Nor do we want to risk being treated the same way. "I apologize for the long wait, please bear with us" would...
Read moreTo be honest, the first judgment of the cafe seems very welcoming and open. Once inside the atmosphere it is completely different. My fiancé, son and I decided to go and there were no high chairs at which I can’t really complain due to the size of the store. The employees do tend to bring the food but gossip very loudly about how we are “Taking too long” and that “They will fix it” towards a tshirt to just spy on us. Don’t get me started on the owner. She seems nice at first but once she came into the store it was straight mean mugging and just not even a hi or welcome and thank you. My son I will say did tend to be loud but he was under control once our muffin came. The saddest part was that I could tell the owner was watching us through the cameras. I’ve been a general manager for two multi million dollar companies and after doing so you know when a camera is in use by personnel or just sensor based. I have seen many reviews supporting claims as such but I never really thought it would still happen to me. It’s not that it’s a bad idea or store just needs to ensure the employees have fake smiles if need be and that you make the store feel more welcoming. Now that’s just my personal opinion through my experience while...
