The Halal Guys — Restaurant in Town of Amherst

Terrible food and even worse service. My friends and I came down here from Toronto and decided to dine in for a lunch break, and we regret not looking at the other reviews beforehand. First off, the food was cold and unlike the other locations we’ve tried both in Toronto and New York. Secondly, the employees have terrible attitude and were incredibly rude from the moment we walked in. You can tell they hate their jobs so they project on their customers.

The employee with the red box braids was especially rude. She didn’t put enough white sauce on my friend’s platter so when she asked for a little more, she told her she had to pay extra. If she had prepared the platter correctly to begin with, we wouldn’t have even had to ask. She was acting like that 20 cents worth of extra sauce was going to come out of her own paycheck lol.

Later on, we found a HAIR in my other friend’s platter, and when we brought it up, the first and only thing she utters is “no one here has curly hair”. Not a single apology or ounce of accountability. It clearly looked like one of the employee’s beard hair which should’ve had a hair-net. Also, keep in mind all 3 of us wear hijab and none of us have curly hair, so I don’t know what she was trying to imply with her comment. She basically had a “well what do you want us to do about it” attitude. She ended up replacing the platter but it should’ve been refunded all together. My friend found the hair in the chicken, which they have pre-made in a canteen pan, so it’s likely everyone who ordered chicken that afternoon had contaminated food.

Train your staff and practice...

If you're looking for a place with great customer service AND great food, eat here! I've had both take-out and delivery and neither one has disappointed me. If you go directly to the store to order, the staff will greet you IMMEDIATELY and they're always being patient and helping the customers who have never been there before because the order line can look intimidating for first-timers with all their toppings and sauces you can have on your patter/sandwich. I ordered online two days ago because of the time and how late it was (thank god they're one of the only stores who open late that also serve good food) and my order came just like how it would if I had ordered from the store. It was taped securely and my husband's name was written neatly on the front of the brown bag with adorable drawings, so I assume whoever bundled up my order must be a talented artist and diligent worker! Anyways, that just made me super happy and pushed me to write this review, so I hope they keep doing small things like that and paying attention to even the small details so they can bring more smiles to people's faces. Extremely bad service. The server was extremely rude and disrespectful. We ordered a falafel platter and she told us it would take 4 mins. Another guy came and ordered the same thing 5 mins after us. The falafels for our platter got ready and she put it in our platter and then took it out and put it in the persons platter who ordered after us. When our falafels finally came she was least interested in hearing what we wanted to order and was ready to close the order even though I wasn’t done adding sauces and vegetables to my platter. Later, we asked her if we could get more sauce and she said it would be extra charges. The person after us came and she told them that if they wanted extra sauce they could come and get more sauce added. We went back to her and asked her to add sauce to our other platter and she looked at the other server and asked him if he added the sauce and he said yes. She then very rudely passed a sauce packet to us. This is definitely not ok and I don’t know if she was being racist towards us or not but an action must be taken against her. Never coming here again if I am not respected...
