Tonight, my parents and my family went to a partner for dinner. What a great meal we had.
In Stony Brook (thank you all) there is a restaurant called O Sole Mio . They make amazing food.
The bread bowl that was placed on the table was great as always. They're focaccia bread is one of my favorites.
We were immediately greeted by joyelle (spelling), and our drink order was taken. She went over the specials which each one of them sounded better than the last. There are so many good choices there we needed a couple of extra minutes with the menu. While we look through the menu which is more like a book we ordered an appetizer. The appetizers consisted of mozzarella sticks fried zucchini and calamari on a single plate. My father said the calamari was the most tender he has had in a very long time.
We also ordered a appetizer that consisted of a chickpea flour toast (if I can call it that) with fresh mozzarella goat cheese and tomato with a balsamic reduction. I purposely didn't tell my mother what it was made out of because she is not a big fan of chickpeas. I will honestly tell you it was one of the best appetizers I have ever had in my entire life. It was so simple yet so flavorful. Oh yeah!!! My mom loved it!
Each one of us then for dinner ordered a different type of chicken.
As suggested I got the Pollo Mona Lisa. It's a rolled chicken cutlet stuffed with prosciut, provolone, and mozzarella cheese. It is then lightly breaded and fried. All topped with a pink cream sauce. They give you four nice size pieces and The taste was phenomenal.
Gabby had chicken francaise which she said was very good.
Vikki got pollo imperiale. This is a chicken cutlet likely egg battered served in a white wine lemon and butter sauce. This was all over a bed of spinach. Topped with grilled shrimp.
Kenny got the bake ziti, which was a great size portion and he took half of it home.
My dad got pollo sorrentino. This is a chicken cutlet topped with sliced prosciut breaded eggplant and fresh mozzarella. It's covered with a light red sauce. He said he likes it better than his local place and had a really great taste.
My mom had another chicken dish that it's name is escaping me. She told me it was awesome, and she would get it again.
For dessert my mom and dad split a tartufo. Kenny got a piece of chocolate cake. I ordered a cheesecake. The desserts are top notch.
Victor and my mom talked about Sicily and where they were from. He is such a warm and inviting man. I am so happy I got to meet him finally. Thank you for your hospitality sir.
There were so many other things on that menu that I want to try. I can't wait to go back.
Before we were seated I made sure to take pictures of their setup outside. They have two larger tents with a few tables inside but they also have six or eight igloos which were beautifully decorated and looked cozy for a date.

Read moreMy best friend moved to this neighborhood with a vision of having a great new years eve catered dinner from O Sole Mio. Barely settled in to his new home, my best friend placed an order for a 3 foot Italian hero, his poor heart blind to the ways of the restaurant world. At first the sandwich seemed a little bland, it surely lacked the pop us long islanders have grown accustomed to from our superior delis. What you guys didn't know was my best friends party was PACKED with former deli workers. Later that night when everyone was asleep, we dissected the Italian hero. What we found was surprising, I think we can all agree a traditional Italian Hero has the following: Provolone, Genoa Salami, Pepperoni, and some form of Cappicola ham. This particular Hero was riddled with the infamous 'deli ham', the bottom of the barrel, last resort, wet and sloppy rubber meat, typically sold to customers for their pets consumption. The Salami layer (the most important) was only one piece and was not a fresh cut Genoa, but some type of store bought Oscar Mayer brand I suspect. There was also a layer of a very low quality mortadella, which we pondered perhaps was either there by mistake or just used to replace the depleted deli stock after a busy new years holiday week. Regardless of the inventory on hand, my friend was unaware of this delis exhausted resources and totally unprepared for his new years hero to be a flop. I write this hoping it brings better quality sandwiches to last minute orders in the future....
Read moreI never give bad reviews, but have had 7+ terrible terrible truly appalling experiences with this restaurant and feel obligated to let people know online. The only reason I continued to go back is because their gluten free pizza and pasta is delicious and not something easy to find in the stony Brook area. These people have the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. I can’t stress enough how much I never write bad reviews online. But from their manager to their serving staff, they have on multiple occasions decided to close the restaurant before our reservation, even though we called earlier in the day to make a reservation and were assured that we would be able to come and eat at the time mutually chosen. Both times we arrived and they said, sorry we’re closed, and I told them we had a reservation and they said, “sorry, kitchen is closed” - other times I tried doing takeout and the manager on multiple occasions was not flexible or helpful about ordering food, especially because I have a gluten allergy and they don’t let you write allergies online when ordering. The restaurant literally opted out of receiving special instructions for online orders. They don’t care and are rude to customers when they cause unnecessary issues, like it’s the customer’s fault. It’s shocking, I just don’t know what to say except that it’s the worst service I’ve ever experienced in my life and you should not go there because there is a good chance that they’ll send you away if it’s...
