Go fish! Go figure?
Where in Westchester, or anywhere, can you find gorgeous shrimp and corn chowder for $4.50 or $8??? Not to mention red or white clam chowder?!
I have been meaning to try Go Fish in Eastchester for a while. I am very picky about seafood and since this is the fast-casual sister restaurant of Eastchester Fish Gourmet, I knew it was worth a try and I was right!
I can’t say that I am in that area often, but I had made a quick trip to Amazing Savings on Central ave and decided to take the route home that would put this place right in the middle of my path.
My mom had the fish and chips. The classic meaty, juicy fresh and perfectly battered cod with gorgeous crunchy sweet potato fries and two sauces that would not end up in the trash… a perfect tartar and a lime-forward chipotle mayo that I kept stealing for my tacos.
My shrimp tacos had about eight medium shrimp inside EACH. They were very good, but I am a die hard corn tortilla person when it comes to tacos and these were flour, so I will move onto other things next time. I had my eye on a poke bowl too. I just missed soft shell crab season.
This corn and shrimp chowder was the type that you might get at a high end NYC restaurant. There was no floury finish and the broth was silky with just the right amount of cream. I will be back for the New England clam chowder once the temps cool. Poke first!
I am blown away by the prices at this place given the quality of the food and the location. Parking is hairy, but there are two metered spots, historic relics, that only take coins. Luckily, my ten year olds wallet was in the car and I was able to park for 45 min. (update: there is metered parking behind and some on the street next to it.) The fellow working was a sweetheart as well and I love it when the employees are excited about the food. He recommended the burrito.

Read moreI should start by saying that I can tell this restaurant is usually good, and we almost certainly came on an off night, perhaps due to holiday absences.
Every single one of our main courses was overcooked, most heartbreakingly the sole. It was a beautiful dish with a beautiful recipe, just ruined by poor execution. The slightly overcooked slightly rubbery lobster was accompanied by a plain baked potato with no seasoning, no butter, no sour cream, nothing (at least it was properly cooked) except very fragrant seaweed (hope you like the smell!). The Parmesan cod was the least overcooked and the dish we most were able to appreciate.
The waiter was unfortunately not well versed in the menu, having familiarity with neither wine nor fish, and seemed to go out of his way to be rude, mocking my pronunciation of menu items and informing me (and no one else) I had done "a good job" by eating the food. (Is it because I looked Asian? because I expressed so much excitement? I have no idea why I was a target) $45 for the dry, destroyed-to-near-inedibility sole and $57 for a slightly rubbery lobster on odorous seaweed with absolutely no garnish for the potato is bad enough, but the unapologetically poor service really soured the evening. My brother charitably suggested the waiter was new, but the waiter was so brash and aggressive that I felt he was likely very experienced but just not at this restaurant.
The recipes and wine list were amazing, the produce and seafood of good quality, the other servers friendly and attentive, and I can tell the head chef is thoughtful and earns the restaurant's good reputation. Sadly, all this was let down by the people more directly involved in our meal the other night. I hope the restaurant can become more consistent, since holidays are often a time people want to splurge and feel their money is well spent. Almost $100 a head should not feel the...
Read moreWe came here to celebrate my husband’s birthday, and I really wanted this to be a glowing review. Overall, it was a good meal, but not quite worth the hype.
The oysters and shrimp were very good and the tartare was acceptable. The seafood risotto was delicious in flavor but surprisingly light on actual seafood. The drinks were well made, and the bartender clearly knew what they were doing. The halibut, unfortunately, missed the mark entirely and is something I would avoid. The food was solid, but not exceptional across the board.
The bigger issue was the atmosphere. There was a large party of six seated near us who were so loud and disruptive that it made it difficult to enjoy the evening. We don’t mind a loud, energetic restaurant, but this went beyond that. It was shouting, table-slapping, and completely took over the dining room. Two tables complained before we did (one group was actually berated by the table for complaining), and once we finally said something as well, nothing changed. The manager actually laughed it off with the group, which was disappointing and surprising for a restaurant that seems to position itself as an elevated dining experience.
I don’t like to leave negative reviews, but I feel that our concerns, along with others’, weren’t taken seriously and it ruined the meal. I’m sharing this in the hope that it helps other people who might be planning a special occasion here. It may not have any impact on the restaurant, but hopefully it sets expectations for future guests.
This could be a really great spot with some attention to how the dining room is managed. The food was solid overall, the cocktails were well crafted, and the service from our server was kind. I just hope management begins to prioritize the experience of all their guests, not just a...
