I don't know quite what to say- we keep coming back but every time we do, we say it's our last. Pros, first: The beers are great with a rotating selection that keeps things fresh and seasonal. The food is usually good- they stick to a heavy-duty pub food and do fairly well with it. Nothing fancy and nothing remotely healthy. Parking is amply available in the attached lot.
Where this place falls down is service. We(my husband and I, or us with our two children) have never made it out in less than an hour, no matter how little we order or what time we come. We've been there as the only table in the place- 1 hour for two drinks and two burgers. As one of fifteen tables- 1:30. The wait staff seems to spend at least as much time on cigarette breaks as they do on serving tables. Their attentiveness to pub-basics like making sure empty glasses are quickly exchanged for full ones (if only from a profit motive) is astonishingly lacking. We do seem to have the same waitress every time, so perhaps there are real standouts but I doubt it. I've seen diners give up on their waitress and walk up to the bar to get their own refill. Something is seriously wrong if that's happening.
Again, I guess it says something for the quality that it's still the best burger and beer in town but they really test my patience every...
Read moreThe staff is really attentive and the business has a decent atmosphere. They have about 16 things on tap at any one time.
But aside from the service and beer they don't do anything great. They don't have a terrible amount of vegan options and unfortunately one of those options, the onion rings, is so unpalatable that I couldn't finish them. They are just drenched in greasiness and left me sick to my stomach. The salad has way to much vinaigrette on it and the veggie burger patti tastes like nothing and yet is overly seasoned at the same time.
The other dish, guac and chips comes with too little guac to chip ratio. While the chips are good they are kinda dry without anything else on them.
The crowd here leans on the older side 40s 50s and unfortunately you have to pay for parking and the whole bar shakes when a train goes by
In the end I'd recommend going to an alternative bar.
Another friend of mine had this to say: "It's just meh. The food- meh... Drinks are nothing fancy and often inconsistent in taste...Beer focused bars are never really clean, I've noticed. There's always a residue of fermentation in the air that never goes away."
My summary: way to expensive...
Read moreWe were looking for a Sunday brunch location nearby and found Growlers website. Honestly, I'm not much a fan of beer bistros since so many have mediocre "bar food" but I was very happily surprised how incredibly good their food was! We had three in our party for the brunch menu (limited in choices but worth it) and, all in, it was very affordable: Three brunches, one round of bloody Mary's for everyone, three coffees and with tax & tip all for $130 in total. Everyone thought the food was terrific. I took one star off for atmosphere only because I personally thought the music was a bit loud, although I could've asked it to be lowered by our very friendly server. This is definitely a...
