Hi friends. I’m here to take you on an unforgettable horror story, so buckle your fweaking seatbelts.
Twas a Saturday night at 6 PM on my mother’s birthday. She yearned for hibachi, so we went to a place we were once familiar with…a place that we could tell had the intentions of serving the public delicious sushi and hibachi. My mom and I take a peak at the menu to see what we wanted. I, omitting the hibachi option after seeing they no longer fried their rice nor gave noodles and clear soup while maintaining the same ,if not more expensive, prices, decided to order the Chirashi bowl. My mom and dad both decided on hibachi. My dad places the order and receives an email with the time “6:50 pickup.” My father and I arrive around 6:49, where the lady behind the desk says it will be ready in ten minutes and I am free to have a seat. No worries, I have TikTok downloaded and 10 minutes isn’t a long while. Until 10 minutes pass. Then 20. Then all of a sudden it’s 7:20 and I am still craving that yummy chirashi bowl more than my body craves the air it breathes. I ask the lady once again on my food eta, where she disappears to the back for ten more minutes and emerges with my food. She apologizes for the wait and I, holding back the growls of my stomach and my growing impatience, smile at her and say, “No biggie!” My dad and I return home excitedly with the goods. As we place the bag on the dinner table, he tells Mom the story of why it took so long. I begin unpacking the bag, pulling out my mom’s soup, my dad’s hibachi, etc etc until I stop with horror. My hand touches the bottom of the bag without having felt my chirashi bowl. r u fr bruh.
My dad yells over the phone at the lady who refuses to get her manager and swears to us that there was 1. No chirashi bowl ordered, 2. No chirashi bowl on the menu, 3. It was definitely in the bag. My dad, more calmly, says that if he doesn’t get a call back in 5 minutes, he is going to drive over there and start raising his voice. Eventually, my father returns with my sad, tiny bowl at 8 PM. He tells us that what went down was the lady at the desk was on her phone (probably texting or something) and definitely not talking to a manger. My dad then inquires to if shes still on the phone with the manager who was supposed to give him a call back. The manager then steps out of the shadows like batman and swears to my father up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, a, b, start that she put the food in the bag. My father and the manager go back and forth at it for a while before the desk lady emerges from the kitchen holding a bag. As the manger continues pleading her case, my dad points to the bag and inquires, “what is this then?”The manager begins to apologize (not even profusely, maybe like once).
At this current moment, I sit, eating my Chirashi bowl, and this jawn isn’t even all that. I’m going to get my revenge, Sushi Ume.
Peace, love,...

I ordered from Sumo Sushi & Hibachi regularly and really enjoyed the food. I was in the area today for the first time in about 18 months and decided to try the restaurant - now Sushi Ume. I did what I regularly did under the previous ownership: I ordered in person at the restaurant and waited for my order to be ready to take home. While they still serve "hibachi" they do not offer any flexibility in the order - I asked for noodles instead of fried rice and was told that the fried rice was included and I could purchase a side of noodles for $3. I ordered hibachi steak, medium rare, and it was accompanied by fried rice, hibachi vegetables, and a miso soup. [Under the previous ownership, the meal used to also include a salad.]The steak was poor quality, over cooked, and very chewy. The fried rice was tasty, but oily. The vegetables were also oily and not flavorful. The noodles were not worth the extra $3 - they were overcooked/mushy, and not flavorful. The restaurant does not have ginger or mustard sauce, something that was not mentioned until after my order was ready; I heard this issue come up with another patron as well. I suggested to the server that mentioning that they don't have these 2 sauces - standard with hibachi orders in most restaurants - prior to a diner ordering a $35 meal would be helpful and she did not understand why that would be important, then offered "yumi" sauce as a substitute. I will not order hibachi here again; there are much better options...
Read moreBottom line: Good sushi, ok entree, terrible service
We placed a pickup order (Ume Special / Steak Teriyaki / Spicy Salmon Roll / Spring Roll), using their website. We wanted to try out this newly opened place, but unfortunately it disappointed us.
The bad: Missing order item, poor order system, and terrible customer service. Apparently the restuarant had no idea whether the order was placed or not, even though it was directly from their website. The frustrating part was how the situation was handled. When asked about the order, the waitress had no clue about the order. She literally said I don't know check with the kitchen. She then went on to doing her own stuff. At a very least, she should have apologized for missing the order and provided rough estimates as to when the order will be ready. A customer don't go to the back in the kitchen to check their own order. I'm not sure what she was thinking honestly. The chef apologized and rushed the order. That was nice but it turns out they did not include the spring roll. I did not want to bother at that point.
The okay: Pricy but okay tasting Steak Teriyaki. It was just whatever. I would not recommend this dish.
The good: Nice sushi presentation and restuarant atmosphere. Even for a pick up order, the container and presentation of the order was very good. By no means we are epicureans, but we think the quality of fish was pretty good. I would be curious to try out the chef's omakase at some point. I really hope they do something about...
