I've been to Mamma Assunta a number of times and always love it. It is one of my favorite restaurants, until now. Cozy feel, decent service and the Gnocchi is amazing. However, I felt the need to post this review because of a HORRIBLE experience to the point that I will never go back. I recently suggested this restaurant to some friends. We had a 6:30pm reservation for a party of 6. We were seated at 7:00pm. Drinks were served at 7:15pm which is when we placed our main entree order. The waiter forgot our salads which was only bought out to us when I spoke up. When the salad reached the table (around 8:00) it was warm and soggy and you can tell the waiter clearly forgot. It's now after 8:30pm and our main dishes still were not out. I had to get the manager to check on our food which finally reached our table at almost 9:00pm. Again we ordered at 7:15pm. My girlfriend order steak which was ordered "well done". The steak arrived rare and the asparagus hard and undercooked. We had the steak sent back to be cooked more and when she got it back, it was still rare. We had to send it back and have it taken off the bill. My girlfriend didn't eat at all because it was too late and our friends had to get home to their kids. My dish (Gnocchi) which is normally amazing, was "fair" at best. Not to mention I received half the order. It took about 10 bites and I was finished, where normally I can't even finish the dish. After numerous complaints to the manager we were not even offered dessert for free. Nothing was taken off the bill other than the steak which my girlfriend never ate, even though we were given the steak to take home. Who wants left over steak? Just a horrible experience and the waiter was rude. It's a shame, but I will never...
Read moreI was there twice. First time with my friend and I had a dinner of my life. We were fighting for appetizers because I was not really sure what I ordered. Mine was a soup and it was delicious. For the main dish I ordered lasagna and despite the person was not too large I couldn’t finish it. The desert was ice cream : gelato custom-made and I had a double espresso with her a few drops of Sambuca. I was extremely happy and ended up carrying 1/3 of my lasagna back to the hotel. My friend who is a food connoisseur I was very satisfied to not only from the food which was served in the perfect way but as well from fantastic service beginning from the owner of the restaurant who is greeting us and inviting in very nice way and all the other people involved. During the meal they presented all the chefs who prepared our meal to big applause from all customers. It was a great experience and wonderful they got great applause from the customers. Two days later I returned Just by myself for late drink and desert. I wanted to sit at the bar but today around a single table for me and again serve me in the wonderful way. I felt very welcome and satisfied. The service was wonderful and the older extremely pleasant...
Read moreMamma Assunta is our "special occasion" Italian Restaurant! Delicious food, daily specials, attentive service and cozy atmosphere all lead to a great experience every time. We brought friends here from Wyoming to demonstrate to them what a real New York Italian restaurant is! They'd never experienced anything like it. This is one of the rare places where I've found Cannelloni on the regular menu and of course, it is delicious. Try the endive and pear salad with its bright lemony dressing, or the linguine with clams, which my companion said were the best he'd had in many, many years. Portions are generous and if I attempt having a primi and a secondi, I roll right out of there. Great for leftovers or sharing the primi. Desserts are wonderful, too, so do keep that in mind when ordering ...
Just remember that you need to look a little bit for Mamma Assunta. The plaza is up a few stairs, and the restaurant is at the back of the plaza, so it's not easy to see from the street. Very well worth the little bit of...
