Ellicottville Bake Shop — Restaurant in Town of Ellicottville

The atmosphere is lovely and pleasant, very tastefully decorated, clean and hygienic; the shop is well-located and has enough parking, and has comfortable seating and tables. The service was excellent. Where they fell a bit flat for me was the food.

I ordered several items in order to get a good sampling of their offerings.

tomato and feta croissant : ✅ Delicious, I recommend it.

sourdough loaf: ✅ very nice, great for dipping in soup and/or gravies. Not too sour but still has the tang.

honey wheat bread: ❌ it may have been a bad day for the baker, my loaf of honey wheat turned out to be underbaked, the dough was still a little bit raw and did not spring back when pressed on. I don't think I will give it another try, because it was also quite bland. I did not detect a taste of honey.

blueberry lemon scone:❌ tasted like bread with a frosted outer layer. The blueberries tasted unpleasantly like reconstituted dried blueberries, not fresh berries. I did not seem to detect any lemon flavor.

oatmeal cranberry cookie: so-so👋🏼. It was okay but the cookie was overbaked, too hard and crunchy on the bottom, and I did not like the taste of cranberries, I wish they stayed with the classic raisin version. This is of course entirely subjective, others may like it with dried cranberries instead of raisins.

mocha hot coffee: fairly decent👋🏼. It wasn't the best I've had and also wasn't bad. I don't think I'll be ordering it again though. A positive is that it was not overly sweet.

focaccia loaf: ☑️ Delicious but quite salty. Best used to dip into a bland broth.

Update, March 15, 2025:

I bought some other things from this bakery to try.

Almond croissant: ✅ very good, though I found the filling a bit gritty in texture, I hope that is almond bits and not split cream.

Pain au Chocolat: ✅ Delicious! Very happy with this one.

Classic croissant: ✅Very nice! It's the closest I've had in America thus far, to an accurate recreation of croissants from France, a taste I deeply miss.

Morning bun: ☑️ I liked the cinnamon-sugar taste very much, but unfortunately, the morning bun I received was clearly undebaked, as will be seen in the photo. If it had been baked all the way, it would have received full marks from me. In the photo one will see that the bottom layer of the bun was completely unbaked.

Bundt cake: ✅ This one was definitely very sweet, but I liked it and ate it over 3 days on account of it being so sweet.

Update, July 30, 2025: Still loving the pain au chocolat! The plain croissants are delicious always! And they fixed whatever was the issue with the almond croissant filling, because I haven't had any other ones that were with a grainy texture of the filling. The focaccia is no longer too salty. My only complaint now is I never get a chance at the savory croissants, those are always sold out by the time I can make it...

I passed this place on my way to Canada and stopped by and bought a few items. I ordered the white chocolate matcha cookie and they gave me a white chocolate macadamia instead and I didn’t notice until an hour away on the road. I stopped by again driving back from Canada and ordered 2 white chocolate macadamia and again, hours later on the road realize they gave me 2 chocolate chip cookies. I don’t understand how u mess up a cookie order it’s literally so simple. The employees should use a notepad or something or double check because that is so beyond crazy to mess up a cookie order two times. The employees literally repeated back the order to me and still got the wrong cookies. I just don’t understand. Both times I came here they gave me the wrong cookies. Insane. It’s not like it was...

I was on the road for work and decided to grab another drink because it was hot and I deserved a cookie. Women at the counter was great and I told her why I was there and she said come in anytime and get ice from me and I have a water bottle filler over there. I have two locations and it’s free. I was like wow that’s nice. I got in my car and left but the blackberry refresher was great. The true hit other than how nice the lady was is the cookies. Oh my!! I love peanut butter and snickerdoodle cookies so I grabbed one of each and o have to say hands down the best peanut butter cookie I have ever had.
