While the food here was overall good, the service was more than disappointing.
We asked how many clams came in an appetizer order of clams oreganata, and the waitress could not answer. Instead of asking the kitchen directly and getting back to us, she asked her coworker, who said that the order came with 5 clams, 2 less than what she had originally guessed. So, based on this information, we ordered two orders. However, when the order arrived, it turned out that there were actually 8 clams with each order - so both of the waitstaff were wrong! 16 clams was way more than we needed or wanted for our 3 person table. This could have been avoided if the waitress simply came to tell us the number of clams.
The most egregious issue was that we were given the wrong bill at the end of the night, which was for another table in a completely different room of the restaurant, for 3x less than what we actually spent. We tried to tell the waitress that we had the wrong bill but had to wait at least 10 extra minutes to have her return to our table. When we finally were able to tell her of the error, she apologized and brought us the right bill - but never thanked us or acknowledged that we could have walked out, spending the incorrect amount (again substantially less than we actually spent), leaving the restaurant to make up the difference. Of course, we would never do this, but it needs to at least be acknowledged by the waitstaff that we were inconveniencing ourselves in order to do the right thing for their restaurant.
At the end of the day, it seems that we will unfortunately not be returning to Alias...
Read moreAlias is a terrific local spot for almost any affair. Their menu is diverse, and the dishes are consistent, well prepared and delicious. The restaurant is a great choice for a catered affair, brunch, or just a quick lunch or casual dinner, and the staff is an absolute delight! Everyone is friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. Also, if you have specific dietary needs/requests (like me), the servers and kitchen staff are glad to help out to ensure that your visit is safe and enjoyable.
One of the highlights of Alias is its beautiful bar; you can always count on tasty drink specials, especially during the winter holidays. Also, the spicy margaritas in the spring/summer should not be missed. We frequent Alias on Thursday nights and are typically under the care of matriarch bartender, Carol, who is not only a skilled mixologist, but a friendly, caring, fun and outgoing personality, who makes every visit personable and fun. She brings such a great energy to our Thursday nights.
Special mentions go to Lisa, Veronica, Chris, Rose and Danny -- they're such integral fibers in the tapestry of Alias.
If you're local to Oceanside, or even if you're not, and unsure where to grab your next meal, definitely consider giving Alias a try. You will not be...
Read moreWeve eaten here over many years and weve been well satisfied. 12/18/19 we have a social gathering an annual tradition. Our annual servers were on hand to cater to our palate. We were dining by the dining room with fireplace and while weve always taken good care of the staff it occurred to us last evening the meals were perfect, the recommended desserts I had Butterscotch brulee, to die for the chefs cooked the lobsters, steaks to perfection and most of us have never met the owners or the. Chefs well today this omission has been corrected people are many times spur to act when they feel upset and when pleased a generous tip can let those who made our night special beam however nothing replaces the simple act of giving accolades to whom made this all possible..Merry Christmas & a...
