I’ve wanted to write this review for a long time, stopping myself out of fear of being seen as petty. At this point I don’t care. I worked for soul brew for a few months this year, and the disparity between the pseudo-bohemian image that they exude and the actual state of their business is truly laughable. I made $12 an hour in 2023 with 5 years barista experience. Tips are expected to cover wages but they never made a livable paycheck for me— which is understandable, because soul brew charges $15 for a chicken salad sandwich WITH NO FRIES. A white bread sandwich with chicken salad and cheese, served to you on a paper plate, that costs more than I made per hour. Hands down the cheapest place I ever worked. I once watched the BOH staff attempt to pick coconut shavings out of a yogurt bowl that someone sent back instead of just making them a new sanitary one because they didn’t want to waste the money. I’d be scolded for giving a table a stack of napkins. I quit abruptly after the pastry chef and kitchen manager started making diabetes jokes about me to my face— I had heard so many racist, classist and generally offensive things from the pastry chef that I was absolutely not interested in being body shamed by her at a store that was already underpaying me. Despicable business practices. Genuinely one of the biggest grifts in Huntington. Good service seems to be what keeps their regulars coming back, but you should all know how they value their employees— which is not whatsoever. There are at least three better brunch spots in Huntington, that will serve you food with actual cutlery, at a table they won’t try to turn over in 25 minutes, with employees who won’t make fun of you the second you leave the store. Go there instead. what a spiritually bankrupt...
Read moreI didn't even want to write a review because mistakes happen and that's okay. I called asking for a refund for two of my drinks since they got it wrong, the first woman I was on the phone said that's fine. Then I got a call back from the person who made my order trying to imply that I'm lying about my drinks being made the wrong way. She proceeded to say "I made the order the exact way it showed up in my system. I could show you how to order online so you can get what you actually want". First of all are you insinuating that me, someone in their 20s who has lived with technology their whole life, cannot place a simple online order properly? Rather than apologizing to me and owning up to her making my drinks wrong, she tried to make me sound dumb so I decided to read my order out loud and ask her if it matches what she received. The only thing she said when she realized that she messed up wrong was "oh... I see that. You can get a refund for those two drinks but not your entire order". I never asked for a refund for my entire order, just the drinks that SHE MESSED UP ON. No proper apology or anything. I wouldn't have even cared if she wasn't so condescending and rude about the whole situation. Almost sounded like she tried to save herself from getting in trouble by making the customer sound like a complete idiot. They should honestly teach their staff to fix their attitude, they are definitely lucky that I am one of the nicer customers. I don't think anyone else would've let that slide without giving them...
Read moreI've been wanting to check out Soul Brew since I saw they were in construction, and I finally had the opportunity. First off, their service is quick and efficient, my drink was in my hand within a minute of ordering and the food followed a couple minutes after.
I had first ordered a small hot S'more latte, and it was absolutely delicious. Even had little marshmallows! I had enjoyed it so much that I had finished it before I left, and ordered another drink. The next I had ordered was a large hot Toasted Almond Mocha latte, and this one had a rich nutty taste to it, very enjoyable. For my meal, I had ordered a Tater Totter to go. I didn't have the time to enjoy at location, but after walking around in the brisk air for 25~ minutes, the presentation was still great and an enjoyable temperature. Its quite flavorful and the dish hits the spot if you enjoy a savory meal, having that option at a cafe is a rarity.
Finally, the atmosphere inside is peaceful. During my wait I observed kindhearted and attentive staff, and the environment itself is homey and welcoming. Polaroids on the walls, plants, soft lighting, and there's seating available for both solo and group diners. I'd love to visit again and sample more of their...
