I had hoped to update my previous review tonight and give this place a better rating. Unfortunately that wasn't meant to be.
Aquacates used to be a great place for Mexican food. We visited on a regular basis and the food and service were always good.
Unfortunately our last few visits have diminished significantly as has the service and quality of food.
Our last few visits have been subpar but we've come back hoping it was a bad night, or day and while there were brief hopes that things were looking up, I can no longer say this is the case.
Our visit tonight started with the host seating us immediately and providing menus. All good.
When I opened my menu is when the issues began. On the pages of the plastic menu were leftovers from the previous guests. Ok, maybe it was missed during cleaning but in a post COVID restaurant world, shouldn't this be a top priority?
I mentioned the issue to our server and then watched the server promptly put the menus back in the holder to be given to the next unlucky guest that walks in.
When we received our food we immediately noticed the portions were smaller and didn't look as good as they did in the past. Yes prices are going up everywhere so I am completely ok with reducing portion size to keep costs low, but take time to maintain the standard of the presentation.
More than one of the servers displayed difficulty understanding English. Not unexpected, but if you are serving the public and they are asking questions about the menu, you should have better communication skills that don't involve the customer having to point out the menu items they want.
My pollo asado was ok at best. The refried beans were closer to neon green than they have appeared in the past.
The chicken fajitas that we ordered contained zero seasoning. Not on the chicken and not on the vegetables. How do you have fajitas without the fajita part? Isn't that just grilled chicken and vegetables?
I won't be returning. If you are looking for Mexican food in the area, drive a few minutes north to Manito's or visit any number of other options in the area. Taco Bell might actually be a better choice at this point (at least better quality and service at a lower...
Read moreLet me start off by saying I never leave reviews, but I just could not hold off telling the story of my horrible dining experience here.
My family dined in here on 10/18/23 for my wife’s birthday. We were seated, placed our dinner order and received our appetizer (chips and salsa) without issue.
When the food arrived, it was only 2 out of the five meals that were brought out. I asked for no beans with my meal, when I received my plate it was almost like there was a double order of beans on it. (Not a big deal, I just did not eat it). We waited 10 minutes later and then my wife’s food was brought out. Her food was NOT what she ordered.
It seemed that we could never get our waiters attention almost to the point we were being ignored. When he finally came over, my wife mentioned to the water that she received the wrong order and she wanted the order corrected. He took the food into the kitchen they poured some sauce on it and brought it back out. The food was now COLD and STILL not correct.
My in laws still sat without their dinner. Another 10 minutes goes by and my mother in laws fajita comes out. It was not hot (temperature), no seasoning and no vegetables. Meanwhile, my father in law did not receive his fajita until 50 minutes after we ordered! At this point all of us had already eaten. His fajita was hot, included seasoning and vegetables. So why were two fajitas made completely different? It was pointed out to the waiter. He seemed to care less and never asked us if we wanted a new one.
The only person that ever received a refill was my father in law only because when the chips and salsa were brought out, the waiter knocked a couple of chips into his drink.
When it came time for the bill, it was never once offered that any part of the dinner be comped. I can assure you this birthday dinner was absolutely ruined by the incompetent staff that lack in customer service. I will NEVER return to this restaurant and will be happy to tell my HORRIBLE experience...
Read moreWell. First, we waited well over an hour for our food. We paid $2.50 for each drink and the waitress never came back once to refill our free refills. So I paid $10 for 4 drinks. Then what I and my wife ordered isn't what we received. I also asked if it could be made with no dairy as I am highly allergic to dairy and the waitress said it could be. I ended up sick for 3 days because I'm 99% positive there was dairy in the food and that's exactly what happens when I have dairy! My daughter ordered a Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich (yes it's on the ridiculously large menu at a Mexican restaurant they have this) and she got a bun with meat. That's it (maybe she got the no dairy???). So I asked the waitress, "does the Philly CHEESE-steak come with cheese"? She said, "Of course it does". I showed her my daughters sandwich and she brought us a cup of cheese. At this point I asked for the check and told her we had to leave now. She brought the check and didn't return. She didn't bother to ask how our meal was or anything. I think she clearly knew we had a pretty disappointing experience. I finally got up and walked over to another man on the register and told him we had to go and I needed to pay. He rang me up and I wrote a big fat $0 for the tip. NEVER have I EVER done this in my entire life. I always tip but I just couldn't do it this time. In fact my wife yells at me because I over tip! I was that upset with this restaurant. I don't complain. I write my review and I just will never return again. 4 people. $50.00. No refills, wrong food, missing food and I got sick. Not a good way to start...
