My sister and I stayed at the Best Western the week of July 9th, 2018. The staff was very nice and accommodating. We checked in on Monday the 9th and we were feeling fine, that night I woke up with a horrible sore / raw throat, fever, cough and a headache. Once we were up and about I notice a very saturated wet spot on the carpet between the bed and the bathroom wall. We let the front desk know and their response was the room upstairs may have left the shower curtain outside of the tub. I knew there was to much water for that to be the reason. They said they would check it out. The next day we woke up to hundreds of ants all over the night stand and in the bed next to the bathroom wall. My sister had several bites on her feet and ankles. We packed up our things and notified the front desk. They said they would move us to another room and they did. They also comped us for the first night. The next night my sister was experiencing a horrible sore throat and cough as well. We checked out on Saturday and headed home feeling miserable. I ended up going to urgent care on Monday because my symptoms had not improved. I had pneumonia and bronchitis. My sister went to her doctor on Tuesday and she had bronchitis. Because the issues had come on so quickly, Doctor felt that we had been exposed to the mold or mildew from the first room we stay in. When I called Best Western to speak with the manager, he was out for the day. I explained what had happened to us to the desk clerk. She proceeded to tell me about allergies and pollen issues going around. Not once did she express any concern as to how we were feeling or what had happened while we were there. I believe the leak had be going on long enough to draw the ants and that mold and mildew had developed. I don't believe the hotel was aware of the leak until we brought it to their attention. I know that what we experienced was from the room that we stayed in for 2 nights and feel that we are entitled to a complete refund of our stay. As of the date of this post we are still dealing with this...
Read moreWatch out for Coupon use. My wife called on a Thursday for a reservation on the following Friday night. I overheard the phone conversation, my wife said she had printed off a coupon which stated that the price would be $109. She was told she would be given a rate of $89 for the night. My wife expressed surprise at this. I overheard her say $89 that is excellent- thank you" My wife was also hoping to book for the following Saturday night but was told the hotel was full at this time and to check for cancellations when we arrived. She asked if we would be given the same rate and was told yes. On check in everything went fine the $89 rate was confirmed. Everything went well, had a good night sleep in a typical older Best Western. Woke to find an invoice for $109 plus taxes. I questioned this at the front desk and was told that a mistake was made by the person dealing with the initial telephone enquiry "she was new and inexperienced" I asked why the person at check in also confirmed the lower rate of $89 and was told she had also made a mistake and the person I was speaking with said she would not be able to make changes. I asked when the manager would be available and was told 4pm. I returned to the hotel in the evening to discuss the matter with the manager and was told she would do nothing as that was the rate. I made a comment as to how times have changed that people no longer seem to honour verbal agreements. To me it was not about $20 it was a matter of principle as my word still is valuable to me. We were travelling with a group of other team members and exactly the same thing had happened to them. With the exception of one who was told they would not honour the coupon and he would be charged the full rate of $179. To avoid billing shock I would suggest you get...
Read moreSleeping and eating in a clean environment. Our expectations are low when we try to support what appears to be a local chain. Regretfully, even low expectations were not met.
The exterior of the facility was very unkempt. We weren’t looking for Central Park, but simple details such as mowing, weed-eating, and picking up trash determine one’s initial impression.
Upon check in, we were told there was no t.v. They offered a discount, though they didn’t say how much. We were fine without the t.v. for a quick overnight stay, but they could have easily called or texted well ahead of time to inform us and allow us to make a choice.
Upon entering at the F entrance, it was clear the area had not been cleaned in some time. The floor was filthy, grass and debris were built up in the corners, the glass appeared to have been cracked or shot, and the odor was unpleasant.
The room was acceptable, keeping in mind we had low expectations. The noise, on the other hand, was not. We understand management can’t control guest behavior, and by midnight it quieted down.
We woke early to get ready for breakfast and start our trek to Niagara Falls. We were INCREDIBLY disappointed by the food offerings. Everything hot was gone, but I was fine with cereal…until there was no milk…or spoons. My husband overheard one employee ask another, “Did you get milk?” to which he replied, “No.” There was also no coffee. That, like many other aspects of this facility, shows a gross disregard for attention to detail.
I had been contemplating a second night’s stay, but the breakfast situation, compounded with all the other issues, made the inconvenience of packing up and finding a different hotel worth it.
We slept, eventually, but we didn’t eat. We are, at this time, requesting a fifty...
