I've had a cabin in the Minocqua area for nearly 25 years. Last night I decided to try a fish fry at T Murdaugh's Pub in downtown Minocqua for the first time. I ordered a beer which was served in a frosty glass. Nice! I then ordered the all you can eat fried pollack with fries. My wife ordered the broiled fish and asked our server if she could tell her more about it. My wife does not like haddock. Our server in a somewhat condescending tone said, " what do you want to know, it's broiled". My wife asked what type of fish it was and had to read for herself in the menu that it was haddock. Shortly after placing our order our server returned with a cup of clam chowder. The chowder was very good. Just before our dinners arrived I was asked if I would like another beer. I responded yes and and was promptly served. When our dinners arrived I first picked up the rye bread. It seemed stale to me like it had been left out in the open for a long time. When our server returned to ask how things were, I mentioned the bread seemed like it had been out since 10 in the morning. She quickly exclaimed " well that's impossible since we don't open until 11". I said, "ok, my bad would it be possible to get another piece". She left the table and quickly returned without any bread saying "that is the best she could do". I said "ok", removed the bread from my plate and finished my 2 pieces of fried pollack and fries. The pollack was good not hot and a little on the dry side. I ordered extra tarter which they charge for.The fries were short on quantity and not my favorite type. The coleslaw was pretty standard. When our server returned, instead of asking us if we would like more fish she said, "can I clear these plates" I would have had more fish but since I wasn't asked I felt like I would again be bothering her so we decided to leave. When our bill was presented I noticed it was missing a charge for a second beer and I called this out to our server. She didn't say anything so I paid for the extra beer and gave a 20 percent tip. I rate restaurants as "poor" (never going back), "ok" (I can eat the food but would rather eat at home), "good" ( somewhat tasty but not on my short list) and "fantastic" (can't wait to come back!). T Murdaugh's fell at the very bottom of good slightly above ok. Unfortunately it looks like I missed...
Read moreA group of friends and I went this past Winter. Great experience with the same bartender that I’m going to speak about and loved the experience overall. Went back there tonight around 10:30 pm. In illinois when you turn freshly 21 you get a temporary ID with your vertical until you get a horizontal ID (as most states do).
My boyfriend’s first time there presented his temporary ID and the same bartender that my friends and I had a good experience with in the Winter said “I’m not taking this shit man.” And threw it on the bar table. We tried to explain to him but he was extremely rude. My boyfriend presented his vertical and the bartender said “Alright I’ll take this.”
I told him that he shouldn’t have crumpled it up and he said “I didn’t.” He told my friends to to apologize to us later on in the night. Moral of the story though, one: there’s no reason to be rude like that… two: at least listen to your customers or educate yourself on other state rules when it comes to ID. Won’t be...
Read moreI normally don’t write reviews, but T Murtaugh’s is worth it. My family and I ate there on a Monday and I had the Rueben. I’ve never had one before, but it was good. Everyone else in my group loved their food, even my kids. When I saw T Murtaugh’s was recommended for their fish fry, I decided to go again. Holy cow, I’m in love. I ordered the Cajun fish and another in my group ordered the original. They were both phenomenal! The breading was light and crispy, and the fish was moist and flaky. The Cajun breading had a nice kick to it, but not too much. If you like a little heat, it’s perfect for you. I’m picky about fish and I was thoroughly satisfied. The clam chowder was awesome and the homemade potato salad was great. The chips were well seasoned and the French fries were cooked perfectly. I even tried the leftovers of my wife’s chicken bacon ranch wrap the next day and it was delicious. I highly recommend T Murtaugh’s. I know...
