Cafe Florentine — Restaurant in Town of New Hartford

Café Florentine is clean, efficient, and offers excellent food. These attributes make this venue a great “third place” for a person to hang out and maybe do a little work, or for friends to get together over lunch, dinner, just desserts, and/or coffee. O enjoy their hot chocolate.

That said, the materials of construction (mostly tiles) and the aloof staff make the atmosohere feel a bit “cool.” The staff IS nice and kind, they're just quiet and tend to stick to themselves. Unless they're delivering something its rare to see them in front of the counter.

The pastries and desserts are prominently featured, and for good reason; they are superb. They're superb in a way that only old-school tradition can create. This is a vintage Utica business that has a deep, multi-generational, brand and the goodies to prove it.

I've never had a bad meal there. Today’s was excellent; presented nicely and so flavorful.

Pretty place. I like some of the pastries here. What was not great though was the behavior of the cashier. I ordered a caprese sandwich and I heard this person make fun of the way I had pronounced it ( I said capr-easy) as she shared it with her coworker. I don't know, maybe she is just ignorant, hasn't traveled much, can't fathom that there can be alternate pronunciations of a word or maybe she hasn't seen brown people before. And I've seen negative reviews of these workers on many platforms and disagree that they are aloof or rude cuz they are young. I teach young adults and I've seen many compassionate and sweet people. Unfortunately, this place never fails to disappoint. I only went here today because I had a gift card. Normally, I don’t go here because the service is so bad, the ambience is cold and uncomfortable, and the food is nothing to write home about. Today I ordered a turkey Ruben, which is supposed to be a hot grilled panini. It looks like they put it on the grill for less than a minute and then served it to me. The bread is cold, the cold cuts are room temperature, the cheese is not melted, and the sandwich is overall disgusting. I have to re-grill it on my panini press in order to eat it.
