Huguenot Creamery — Restaurant in Town of New Paltz

Bad vibes ice cream.

Visited the creamery for a sweet treat after a lovely lunch down the street. Note: they do not make their own ice cream - it’s Perry’s, which is nothing special. Knowing that alone, you can skip this place.

I ordered the pistachio, which was fine. My partner ordered black raspberry sorbet, which had the consistency of taffy (too much gum stabilizer). It turned him off and after a few minutes of trying to enjoy it, it wasn’t working. He explained to the women behind the counter that the consistency wasn’t to his liking, and he kindly asked if he might be able to have a shaved ice instead. What happened after this was truly unbelievable: the women attempted to turn this very simple issue into right and wrong. “This is what happens when it’s 95 degrees outside! I’ve been working here for 14 years and this is my first complaint. Return food??? No.”

We sat there rather dumbfounded. For such an easily solvable situation, this women turned it unpleasant. For no additional cost to her (shaved ice = water lol), she could have had a satisfied customer. Instead, she wanted to be “right,” losing our business in the process.

I don’t like to give low ratings ,,,I’m always trying to find the good in a place ; so this review of their Ice Cream is done with candor and respect for merchants who work hard to open establishments-

First , we only sampled the ice cream . Read the reviews of their shakes - they are well received.

That being said - their ice cream is not homemade , but from a manufacturer called Perry’s .

They have very limited flavors -

The ice cream is very pedestrian and that’s putting it kindly.

The shop is absolutely charming and fits with the town vibe. The person working the counter was very nice and helpful.

Hands down one of the best if not the best chocolate milkshake I have ever had. It was thick, creamy and just the right amount of Nutella and banana. I got the banana chocolate Nutella milkshake. You won’t regret it if you are someone who is looking for quality shakes. It will not disappoint. I also tried the lemon sorbet and it was delicious. But pales in comparison to the chocolate milkshake. I cannot wait to come back to try another milkshake flavor of theirs.
